Well we could continue to complain and put both sides down "or" we can cross our fingers and HOPE that something good will come out of Ek's rumours and be happy with the thought that hockey will start sooner rather than later.

Several "Sources" reported it yesterday. Even Boston.com had a blurb.. was all squashed today

Thats the problem. We can sit here and hem and haw for months about who is wrong, but there isn't a nhlownergeek.com that tells us how much profit they get from the plethora of ads in and around every arena.

- Buffalo--Sabres

Because we have no right to that information. The NHL, and all it includes, is theirs, not ours. If you don't like it, take your business elsewhere. If they choose to disclose that information, that's their decision to make.

To become the 23rd highest in the league. Woooooooooooo. That greedy (frank)er. (sarcasm font).
- Buffalo--Sabres

and Buffalo is smaller and poorer that just about all marketplaces in the NHL.

The point is that he pretends like he is on the fans side then he does something he said he wouldn't do.

Why do you think we all know what the players make?
We know cause the owners want us to. They want us to complain about how Erhoff is making 40 million or whoever is making a lot of money.

That S-O-B doesn't want to play for millions of dollars when the fans would play for 5% of that.

Meanwhile its not publicized how much money these owners have! Pegula gave Penn State almost 100 million dollars for a hockey rink yet he has to jack an extra 80 bucks out of some poor guy who is trying to take his family to see a game.

It horrible that we need to pay that much to see a game. Ticket prices should all be in the 20 - 50 dollar range. Even players like Sid and Ovi could afford to play for 2 million a year instead of 8. If they dont like it let them try to do something else and make that much money

You think Ed Snider sits around and does nothing? He answers to Brian Roberts and the Comcast Board of Directors. He in fact works for the Comcast Corporation.

I may be missing the joke (feel free to explain if so ), but that would be how their organization functions. Being an NHL organization doesn't inherently require financial transparency, though.

I, and no one I know are poor. So the idea that all people that live in Buffalo are in houses with holes in the roof and eat mudcakes is not true. There is still a lot of money here. Enough to sell 766,290 tickets each season.

jack an extra 80 bucks out of some poor guy who is trying to take his family to see a game.

If you are legitmitately poor, you should have better priorities than buying your family hockey tickets.

MLSE is a division of Rogers and Bell. Rogers and Bell are publicly traded companies requiring full financial disclosure. Therefore for the first time ever, The Leafs books are going to be open to the public.

BUT,.............

NBC gets an additional year for FREE.

Based on the continuing growth, that additional year, which is tacked on at the end will be worth substantially more than the current year

Pressure exists

- faceto27

They don't get an additional year for FREE (your caps, not mine).

They are going to pay this year for a season which may not exist - it's essentially paying now for a season 10 years later.

Based on the continuing growth, that additional year, which is tacked on at the end may be (and that's a big maybe) worth more.

But if that is the case, NBC will be happy watching this season go down the drain.

In other words, NBC isn't going to exert any pressure on the NHL.

Sorry, Charlie.

Gotcha. So yeah, their organization is transparent by nature, but that doesn't put a requirement on any other NHL franchise to be that way.

For the majority of the Leafs' existence, they were a publicly traded company.

And if I wanted to see the fans play hockey, I could go watch beer league hockey at Chesswood Arena for free.

And do you know why it is free? Because it isn't worth paying for.

Did he really give Penn State 100 million dollars? What a bastard! I can't believe a guy would make a donation to a university.

You can't compare Companies to a Sports League. It's not reality. And if those guys who PAY to PLAY were good enough to get PAID to PLAY. They wouldn't continue to PAY to PLAY.
- MJL

okay then let's compare it with other professional sports leagues/owners. do any of them split their profits 50/50 with the players?

and i agree with your second point.

Is the 2023 one going to be worth more? Just like you said in your earlier post?

Well then, factoring in low interest rates, I'm going to guess the 2023 one?

So NBC won't put pressure on the NHL to settle.
