I believe we see hockey come the US Thanksgiving.......... NBC was planning on making a big splash that day. NBC will start to put pressure on the owners. |

if the players gave into all the owners demands they would still be rich and famous from playing hockey. this is ridiculas. owners will probably always be rich from their other business ventures but the majority of them should not be losing money because they are doing us all a favor and owning a team. these are people who could be doing anything else with their money. do i want to see filthy rich owners getting even more rich while the players are scrapping by? absolutely not. thats just not the case. the players need to realize that they have no financial risk involved. yeah yeah i've heard the argument that they are taking a physical risk. well playing hockey is a priveledge that people fight tooth and nail to do. so that argument is garbage. you name off 10 billionaires that would want to lose money owning a hockey team (that dont already own 1) then i will change my argument. everybody who laces up the skates knows the risks involved in playing hockey and still wants to be in the NHL. - joshs
agree. can somebody recommend me a company that splits its profits exactly 50/50 with its employees? can you put in a good word for me? and there are guys out there who not only take an injury risk by playing, but who also PAY to PLAY. |

well, the owners successfully canceled a season because they insisted on a hard salary cap and ever since they got it they have successfully outdone one another in circumventing the salary cap that they claimed they couldn't live without. Now they are holding all of us hostage because an owner like the one in Buffalo thinks it's necessary to give a 19 year old like Tyler Myers a 12 million dollar up front for a season for absolutely no reason.
it's a joke |

NBC owned by Comcast owned by Snider who owns Flyers.
Not sure about any pressure from someone who is in the inner circle of the whole lockout. |

Your looking at it from the competely wrong perspective. There is no owner who is in it for the love of the game. They are in it because it's a business investment to make money. When you turn on the TV to watch a game? Who do want to watch? The players on the ice, or the Owner sitting in his suite enjoying a cocktail? The players are the show. And it's a 3.3 billion dollar business, in which the players deserve what they are getting. The players should bend over and take it again because the League can't get their act straight and take care of their own house? - MJL
I go to see the team, the players (with their short careers) come and go.
I want my team to be able to be competitive year in and year out and if this means tweaking an agreement then so be it.
And as stated before the agreement has EXPIRED and is not up for renewal so yes they are in their rights to fix what was broken on the last one. |

I completely agree with you... but the NBC deal puts pressure on both owners and players.... the NHLPA get will get a percentage (whatever it turns out to be) of the NBC revenue. If the players are dumb enough to think that NBC is putting pressure on the owners and not the players they need to fire Fehr. The reason Owners are paying out huges salaries and Players shares of HRR is going up is becuase of deals like NBC. Wake up players... Wake up owners.... both of you have tons of money and future money on the line to get on the ice sooner rather than later.

i heard a possible rumor concerning Area 51 and the presidential debate tonight. - Why So Serious
In 2000, one of the presidential debates between Gore and W. Bush was held at the University of Massachusetts.
To this day, I'm convinced that the entire thing started as a joke, because some guy thought it would be funny to hear newscasters say U Mass Debate.

You can't compare Companies to a Sports League. It's not reality. And if those guys who PAY to PLAY were good enough to get PAID to PLAY. They wouldn't continue to PAY to PLAY. |

The flyers are owned one third by Snider and the other two thirds by Comcast. Comcast is 87% owned by mutual funds and institutional holders.

Me, I wish they would have this resolved by the weekend, but they wont. So intead I hope the league collopses and these greedy franks all pay the price. Then a new league forms and takes rights to the Stanley cup. |

The NBC puts exactly zero pressure on nothing.
They knew that a lockout was coming when they signed the deal.
If there is no hockey this year, NBC still pays the NHL, and in return, NBC gets NHL rights for an additional year.
