I agree with Canuckyou's assessment, except I hope they don't get to the signing and one side decides they want to win for their ego and wants 50.001 percent and the other side refuses to take 49.999 percent!!! WE WANT HOCKEY NOW!!!

EK must be talking to that young gun Richard Park about the lock out. Then again, he probably isn't that reliable as the younger members of the union are normally not as involved as the more senior members.......

You clearly haven't been reading things here.

The correct answer is that the players are greedy bastards who are making too much money and (frank)ing beautiful women for playng a game that we all wish we could play better.

The owners are taking all the risks and so should be able to set wages unilaterallty

I believe it will be a phased in roll back that finally comes in at 50% over the length of the contract. In doing it this way existing contracts will be fully protected. I think they still have a shot at making opening night.

Playing devil's advocate here... For those of you who remember the NBA lockout last fall. In November it was all gloom and doom, people were talking about the season starting in February and a lot of them were saying there would be no season at all. Then the next morning while listening to the radio I found out that the deal had been made to start the season on Christmas Day. Everything seemed to have happened virtually overnight. I remember how surprised I was... Does anybody think something similar is possible in the NHL right now?

Nope...I totally think the season is toast. Greed will win in the end.

Brian Leetch and Jason Allison have begun on ice work outs in preparation for the lockout ending. Teams are interested.

I applaud your optimism, but it's delusional.

And how long are you expecting this CBA to be for? There are currently 16 deals in the NHL of 10 years or longer.

The moral here is simple!

Money Rule!!!!

Who ever still think that hockey or anything in life (pretty much) comes with dedication, hard work, passion, sacrifice etc is so clueless of what trully makes the world go round (and hockey is no exception to the rule!).

This is clearly a battle of who will make more money and meanwhile the average guy in front of me is getting paid 8.75$/hour to prepare my foot long sub talking about how the Devils could of done better againts L.A.

Who is trully hurting by all this???

I've heard some rumblings that this lock out needs to end by American Thanksgiving (Nov 23rd)... its when NBC starts their coverage of the NHL.. a deal which many believes will end if the NHL is locked out. Its around the time HBO 24/7 is supposed to start filming.. (a huge draw for american viewers)... and is a profitable time of year for the NHL/NHLPA. Including merchandise sales for Christmas and ticket sales around the holidays.

The league will lose serious dollars and possibly a contract with NBC if they don't have things going by then. Not to mention the winter classic being a huge draw.. and expected to be even bigger with Toronto and Detroit.

I will be shocked if this turns into a full year lock out... the fact that they are talking is good news.. being so far apart is bad news... but I believe both sides will come to an agreement sooner than later this time around.

I normally never say to much about Ek but seriously not 1 other site that I have checked mentioned anything about another proposal from the players.

So where did he come up with this.

I hope your right. But my feeling is that the season starts sometime in 2013. Right now I don't see either side giving in. All of that you mention seems like it would put added pressure on the League. Something the PA may be counting on. I think the PA has dug foxholes and is ready for a long battle.

if the players gave into all the owners demands they would still be rich and famous from playing hockey. this is ridiculas. owners will probably always be rich from their other business ventures but the majority of them should not be losing money because they are doing us all a favor and owning a team. these are people who could be doing anything else with their money. do i want to see filthy rich owners getting even more rich while the players are scrapping by? absolutely not. thats just not the case. the players need to realize that they have no financial risk involved. yeah yeah i've heard the argument that they are taking a physical risk. well playing hockey is a priveledge that people fight tooth and nail to do. so that argument is garbage. you name off 10 billionaires that would want to lose money owning a hockey team (that dont already own 1) then i will change my argument. everybody who laces up the skates knows the risks involved in playing hockey and still wants to be in the NHL.

Your looking at it from the competely wrong perspective. There is no owner who is in it for the love of the game. They are in it because it's a business investment to make money. When you turn on the TV to watch a game? Who do want to watch? The players on the ice, or the Owner sitting in his suite enjoying a cocktail? The players are the show. And it's a 3.3 billion dollar business, in which the players deserve what they are getting. The players should bend over and take it again because the League can't get their act straight and take care of their own house?
