If Mike Richards (currently 2nd in the vote to virtual shoo-in Tocchet) beats out Dave Poulin, Rick MacLeish et al for the final roster spot, I'll honor the readers' final vote when I submit the roster to Ek for the fantasy league.

But before that, someone is going to have to restrain me from bashing my head into a brick wall a few times before I write my commentary tomorrow morning . Nothing against Richards, but there is no way in hell that he should get in over either Poulin over MacLeish.

- bmeltzer

Right now Keith Primeau is in second. If that happens I may have to reinstitute my crusade on here to educate the oblivious. The guy sucked for all but a year and a handful of games.

Rick MacLeish! C'mon people. If you never saw him play at least look him up.

Poulin was an extremely complete player, including being a two-time 30+ goal scorer who averaged better than a point-per-game (albeit in a higher scoring era) his first two seasons. Hockey sense off the charts. Richards is a good two-way player, but Poulin was a Selke caliber shutdown center on top of it. And he was in another galaxy than Richards in terms of being an off-ice leader.

I went with Tocchet and Rick Macleish. It killed me to leave Dave Poulin out. Also wanted badly to pick Mike Richards.
- MJL

Agreed. That's exactly where I was.

Keith was a good captain but shouldnt have recieved vote in my opinion. He was a checking line center for the majority of his time with the flyers. I know people may say the same about Richards but richards could finish.

I went Tocc and Briere...

Tocc for obvious reasons, and Danny for the way he leads this team in the Playoffs. He was instrumental in the cup run as well as the ECF following the season of non-mentioning.

agreed on Briere

Why is he miserable, because richards cried when clarke said if he wanted to be paid like the best player he should play like it? Oh wait that was somebody else.

What this voting tells me about the fans is that we develop emotional attatchments and biases(and hate) for players. Thats all well and good but it certainly clouds our judgement and what keeps us from being scouts.

I had Renberg as one of my seven. I would never vote for that puke Recchi. It would be a travesty if Poulin isnt on this team.

Bill, i know you will "honor" the voters selection, but this is the clearest case of the need for an "executive decsion" there can be

- KINGKENZO

Not making a statement here, but to the board in general - is Recchi a HOF'er?

I would think yes but maybe on the borderline. But interested in some others opinions.

Clearly you did not read MJL's opinions that Richards did not make the cut. Not sure how you could still vote for him.

Seriously! Rick MacLeish was a flat out sniper that could score from anywhere. He was a rock on that 2nd line.

Primeau could finish also. His first full year with the Flyers, he scored 34 goals. Then his offensive ability mysteriously disappeared.

This is exactly what the NHL should have in the works along with the new CBA. A committee should review the call after the game and take a vote on penalties to the player in the form of a fine.

Absolutely. How in the World someone can think Recchi is a borderline HOF'er is beyond me. 577 goals and over 1500 points. It's a no brainer.
