IMO, at the end of the game, I would put Poulin out there more times then I would put Richards....
- phi1671

If I had to choose one over the other I agree. But I would be extremely confident if Richards was the guy in that spot. I wish Richards had remained a Flyer for his entire career.

I agree about being a Flyer for life....but I think the trade made him grow up as an athlete....I also think he wasn't ready to be captain, when he was given the C

I would have confidence to put Richards out there...but between just the two...I lean toward #20 not #18...it's tough because I was a fan of Richards as a Flyer.

If Mike Richards (currently 2nd in the vote to virtual shoo-in Tocchet) beats out Dave Poulin, Rick MacLeish et al for the final roster spot, I'll honor the readers' final vote when I submit the roster to Ek for the fantasy league.

But before that, someone is going to have to restrain me from bashing my head into a brick wall a few times before I write my commentary tomorrow morning . Nothing against Richards, but there is no way in hell that he should get in over either Poulin over MacLeish.

yea for real, as one poster said the other day, you didn't have to be alive to be aware of history.

I don't see the growing up part. I think more then anything, the trade put him in a really good spot. Most young players aren't completely ready to be a Captain when they are named one, and need to grow in it and learn on the job as a process.

Seriously. Like you wouldn't vote for Gordie Howe or Bobby Orr for one of the best players of all time because you weren't alive then. Or Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle in Baseball.

I didnt remember Poulin winning the Selke but Richards has been in the running for that also at one time. As far as leadership goes I care more about on ice then off.

Would you say Richards was a more offensive skilled player and Poulin better in his own end?

- Stinkfitz

I'd say they were about equal offensively, and Poulin was better defensively.

Poulin was also a great on-ice leader; such as when he donned a flak jacket to play with broken ribs during the playoffs. As for off-the-ice, he was a tower of strength and comfort for the team after Lindbergh (who was one of his best friends) died. He also helped keep the club from a full-fledged mutiny against Keenan in 1986-87.

I think it was this play here where Hartsy enshrined himself as my current favorite Flyer

He's one of the most underrated players in team history. Craven, too. Those 80s teams were stacked.

I am just surprised you would be that upset with richards getting the nod. Doesnt seem that far fethced. Personally I went Tocchet and Macleish. Tocchet in my mind should have made it over Gange. I think the tocchet vs gagne race was similar to the Poulin vs Richards.

I went MacLeish and Poulin. Lots of deserving candidates.

Wow, this was the hardest pick yet IMO. I went with Poulin and Richards

It was Tocchet's winning goal in this game that made him my favorite all time Flyer, (Brind'Amour's a close second). The goal is about 7:15 somewhere around there. Hextall let in 3 goals but stopped a poop load of oddman rushes breakaways etc.

I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but is anyone else the least bit encouraged by the weekend talks? At least it's scheduled to be a 3 day session and not some informal half hour luncheon.

I just want hockey to start so bad, I am praying that finding common ground on secondary matters may lead to it on the core issues.

I don't have much hope. Were in for a long lockout. And I think the threat of a lost Season is very real. The secondary issues are the easy part.
