Here's a question for people that don't like the idea of players playing in Europe. Why is it okay for teams to assign players to the AHL like Eberle and RNH? What really is the difference?

The only reason I would think it is appropriate is because they are still under contract to the team...I do believe that they should get the right to refuse the assignment w/o penalty.

NBA had players all over Europe.

Couldn't tell you about the MLB because that was a long time ago. Although that last MLB strike was a bit different. Keep in mind the players were actually playing and then the strike took place.

NFL didn't miss any games so there was no need to leave. Plus the CFL I believe doesn't take players that are lockout by the NFL. The other issue would've been the whole agreement to when players are allowed to come to the CFL and I don't think it would've mattered. To be honest I don't know what league actually lines up with the NFL so that players could leave perfectly like the NHL. Think arena football finishes in July so that wouldn't be an option.

The problem with baseball is they never really were locked out or on strike at the start. The guys played a bunch of ball and decided to take an early off-season.

The other thing is the NHLers have a lot of options. I can't think of another sport that has a pro league who in an ASG could probably give them a run for their money.

Oh there is no doubt the NHL has the best of the best time and again. It is the gold standard league for hockey. Not debating that, and that is not what we are debating.

My thing is that players leaving to make sure they get their money are abandoning their own brethren in a greedy mercenary way.

It undermines their We Are United mantra, cause they aren't.
