Foreshadowing to the 2013 draft
"Barkov, barely 17 years old, was 3rd in points while playing with men in the Finnish SM-Liiga this past season. He's been really impressive, and was my clear choice for our #1 overall pick," said Blue Jackets GM Scott Howsen after making his selection. Edmonton then quickly choose consensus top pick Nathan MacKinnon, the scoring sensation from the Quebec Major Junior league. In a poll, 29 of 30 GMs rated him as the top pick. Barkov was only a top 2 pick in 13 of the 30 surveyed.

In later draft news, Jay Feester moves up from 3rd overall to 17th and selects his daughter out of a Calgary area high school. Says Feester "Our scouts really think her all-world Ringette skills will translate well to the NHL ice."

Who's this MacKinnon kid you speak of?
- 1979AD

Not sure. His name came to me in a vision during my last tribal dance.

Barkov? Consistency right now. Needs to wow me a bit more on a more consistent basis. If he does, he'll push hard for a Top 3 spot.

Which ever team is in the worse financial shape will get first pick. The other 29 teams will then go into a lotto where you get at least 1 ball to a max of 3. Making the playoff or drafting 1st will cost you a ball.
- Lahey

Oh great. So Mackinnon's gonna rot in Phoenix until he pulls a Turris and tops out as a second line center on a decent team in the NHL.
Can't the Coyotes just disband or move somewhere that they can actually do well already? Or at least learn how to develop forwards with skill without forcing them to play strict defense.

If I'm drafting that high I wouldn't touch Domi. No way, no how. His skill is unquestionable but he has horrible tunnel vision. I get so frustrated watching him try to take on the whole team by himself. He is going to be massively humbled when he stops playing against boys and starts playing against men.

Still hoping for a Lightning prospect review. 2 of our goalies are killing it in Europe. Vasilevski is 9-1 in the MHL and Janus is 5-1-1 in the KHL.

Thanks it's interesting, but not having the Goalie that owned the post season in the AHL as one of the top non-NHL Lightning prospects then there is something wrong.

It's coming. I'm trying to stretch things out as much as possible so I don't hit a wall and have nothing to write about for weeks.

I had the same issue with him much of last year. He's really started to curb out the individualistic play late last year and coming early into this season.

I could literally show you the reports where I've noted how happy I was to see that Dale and Mark seem to be slapping him on the wrist for it.

The point to the way he ranks prospects is that defenseman and, even more so, goalies don't usually show their true potential until far further down the line. Doesn't mean he thinks your (or anyone's) goalies aren't good prospects, just that they're still a big question mark.

I guess I just have a fixation on goalies. Vasilevski is an absolute stud.

I have watched the Mosseheads play twice so far this season. The MacKinnon durian combo is going to be off the charts this year. Look for them to both get 100 points plus this season.
