When he was healthy he was still great. I couldn't leave him off. I don't see how people could put Poulin or Brindy ahead of Giroux
- Dkos

I'm not sure of the rules here, but there wouldn't be a GM alive that would take Poulin in his best year over Giroux right now. Same for Brindy over Giroux.

I think the only player in the league I would trade Giroux for is Shea Weber. And in different conversations, many posters here would be unwilling to do that.

Body of work. It's certainly not skill set. In 2014 I'm sure there will be a huge shift toward Giroux if he continues on pace.
- mayorofangrytown

The only reason why Giroux isn't on my list. He just hasn't played enough to qualify over my other choices.

Career accomplishments are why Poulin and Brind'Amour are ahead of Giroux. Giroux is in the infancy of his career still. If he continues as is, I'm quite sure that Giroux will be right up there. Hopefully ahead of Poulin and Brind'Amour.

so I'm supposed to forget how great Forsberg's career was but assume Giroux won't sustain his play in the future?

I think Giroux is better now than Poulin and Brindy were when they played for the Flyers

Just remember to create a 'team' you dont need 20 guys who can hammer the puck into the back of the net, you also need players who can shut down other teams most talented players. Poulin and Rod could both score but there tendancy to snuff out other teams quality players is what sets them apart from Giroux in this instance. I dont deny Giroux is other worldly but right now he is not what the fantasy team needs.

Most people when looking at players think just in terms of offense and not the rest of the game, such as 2 way play, leadership, and intangibles. Not that Giroux doesn't have some of those qualities, because he certainly does.

My age might be showing here, my picks are the same accept id pick G over Brind'amore if we are going off body of work as a flyer. I know G is young but what he did last season was simply amazing and IMO better then what Rod did as a flyer, now I was like 7 during the glory days of the 90s flyers and I really only watched big e play but I feel like G can make a bigger difference on the ice then Rod could.

Heres the biggest question, Im almost certain the C would go to one of these centers so who would it be?

Im going to go out on a limb and say Poulin with clark as an A

Bill set the tone for the selections by writing he only considered their Flyers career and not their overall accomplishments otherwise no one could have left Forsberg and Roenick off the list. How do you not pick the four potential Hall of Famers?

Hell... I'm still trying to figure out the Primeau votes so don't get me started.

My fantasy team, which has Clarke agitating your first line center, and Lindros and Giroux piling up points, would no doubt kick the crap out of your fantasy team.

And while we are at it, my 9th level Magic User would destroy any character you could muster up.

It's all about what your ciriteria is in making your picks. Mine is about accomplishments and body of work, not just how skilled a player is. Giroux hasn't had a full opportunity there as his career is just getting started. But that's part of the deal in my case in how I chose my list.

Now your really showing your age. Poulin was a very strong Captain. But Clarke captained and led his team to 2 Stanley Cups.

My picks as well. I hated to leave off Rick MacLeish, however.

I had MacLeish over Poulin.

Dude, you know you had Primeau in your top 4. Just admit it!!!!

(tbh even though I liked Primeau he's still nowhere near my top 4. Clarke, Lindros, Brindy, and Giroux for me)

EDIT - came down to Brindy or Poulin for my last spot, and now I'm thinking it should be Poulin. I'd still take Giroux over either one though, despite the comparatively small sample size.

There's absolutely zero question about the captaincy. It's Bobby Clarke's. Hands down, not even a debate.

I struggled after Lindros and Clarke. The last two spots, for me, were between Brind'Amour, Giroux, Poulin and MacLeish.

I went with Poulin for the intangibles. He was not only the best(or only) team captain of the four, but he was also the best defensive player among the the group, IMO. Brind'Amour was not only an outstanding player in all facets of the game, but his drive and desire are what it means to be a Flyer.

In a year or two, I'm sure that Giroux would oust one or the other.

I would have voted for Carter or Richards before Primeau. They both had more points as a Flyer (Regular season or Playoffs) and they both went to not just two conference finals but actually won one and went to a Stanley Cup final.

Arguably they both should have been on the list before Preems and Gratton.
