Larry Quinn is still a pretentious, conceited a*s. WTF ever got done with his input and brilliant ideas on the waterfront? He and his ilk have been who helped to hold Buffalo back for years. Thank God he is out of the picture now.
Only an idiot urban planner would try to hit a homerun on what gets built on the Buffalo waterfront. They tried that for decades and nothing got done. If they would have hit "singles" 20-30 yeas ago then it would be much further along in its development than it is now. Hit singles, build a solid infrastructure and then maybe the major, big developments happen. Larry Quinn tried to hit a "homerun" in the brown fields of the waterfront when building it up and then swinging for fences might have been the way to go, kind of like they are doing now.

On Canalside: “The vision for Canalside that they have now is very different than what I had. Canalside, right now, is a very nice, very seasonal experience. I don’t see it as being a 12-month experience. I don’t see it as being the catalyst for a major movement of people into the city. As fun as it is, you’re talking thousands of people, not millions of people. What we were trying to do is get an anchor.
On the Sabres’ planned HarborCenter ice-rink complex, which he refers to as “good” but not “great”: “It doesn’t have to be a home run. It can be a nice single.”
On fans’ reactions to him: “Shortly after I left the Sabres I had to go to the Walden Galleria for something, and I ended up in the mall with a line of seven or eight people – I didn’t know any of them – who wanted to say thank you for helping the team. That was very gratifying.”
• On whether Pegula appreciates how Quinn and Golisano rebuilt and strengthened the Sabres franchise, which Golisano purchased out of bankruptcy: “Yeah, I do. I like Terry, and I think he does (appreciate it). I think Terry is a good guy.”
• On the Sabres’ multimillion-dollar locker room/training facility expansion under Pegula: “I thought it was overkill, honestly.”
• On the NHL lockout: “I get the sense there’s no negotiating going on … I’m not unsympathetic to a lot of the players’ positions. But negotiate. There’s a middle ground there. Figure out what it is and start playing
Larry Quinn is pretty pretentious, but he does have a point, one that he's merely reiterated with me during his exit press conference. It's not the likes of him, it's the likes of the city. The local politicians in this town are both dumb and corrupt. Even in order to hit a "single" that is Pegula's rink project, the amount of palm-greasing and back-door dealing that had to be done is ridiculous. Even now, I won't be convinced it's even happening until construction actually starts. Quinn is also correct in that it didn't have to be "one or the other" as far as Pegula's project versus Palladino's project, and that's the real problem with his town. There's no reason both couldn't have come to fruition. It's not Quinn that's causing the problem. It's the amount of bending over backwards you have to do to get anything done. You can scoff at Bass Pro and whatnot (even I'm not sure it was a great idea to begin with), but the problem wasn't the ideas the likes of Quinn were coming forward with. The problem was the refusal of the people in charge to make a decision and implement it.
I'm also not sure what's wrong with "swinging for the fences".

I just can't understand how your are not the GM of a multiple Stanley Cup champion . You have such incredible insight on how an 18 year olds career will end up . Get over yourself . Only time will tell if the kid is an all star or a bust . But to pass judgement on him this early is just stupid . - Maximum Signal
Such a hypocrite....
Garth: Grigorenko is the next Malkin
Sabres Fan Base: collectively jizz in their pants
Reveen: Grigorenko is the next Rob Schremp

Where did Garth call him the next Malkin .And if he did what makes you think we all agree with Garth's hype . Sabre fans love the pick . It fills a big need in the organization if he develops into the stud centre we need . The kid has potential . Nobody has named him the next Gilbert Perreault . Only time will tell how the kid turns out . Your bashing and condemning the kid as a bust already is just annoying at this point .
We have not had the luck or the crappy record to have three first overall picks in a row . So we have to hope and reach a little more for our sure thing. Maybe he works out and maybe he does not .
