See, not buying merchandise is a fine thing to do. I don't buy the threats of not watching NHL hockey when it returns, though. It's a bit late at that point to make a stand, or at best a very watered down demonstration against future lockouts.

I bought my last Flyers jersey about 5 years ago.

Nothing on it, just plain from a regular sports outlet. $299. (in canadian)

They are regular $269 now. A sale being held due to the lockout and you can get them at some places for 170$.

You want me to pay 170$ for a piece of cloth? The merchandise is way too overpriced as it is. When a pair of really decent skates costs less than a jersey you know something is wrong.

I own that jersey and a baseball cap. They wont get another cent out of me for a long while for "merchandise".

I think first and foremost the owners have to realise that they are part of a league. Having teams struggle financially is bad for the league. Whether that means moving them or revenue sharing, the owners have to realise it.

I am a huge supporter of parity. The salary cap itself isn't doing its job. You still have the big money teams with a lot more power than other teams. Parity itself will create success and generate more money. A person is much more likely to want to go see a game, or support a team that is doing well than a chronic basement dweller.

Imo what needs to happen is the cap be lowered substantially. That will mean that player salaries go down yes. The cap cannot also go up every damn year.

I would cut all player salaries by a certain percentage. No more rediculous mega deals.

From the owners standpoint they do have to increase revenue sharing, to not make the pay cut from the players so drastic.

I blame both sides.........some how a common ground has to be found that works. If not this will keep happening and just drive the fans they do have away.

Imo no player should make more than 1-2 million in this day and age.

Nobody should, owners included in that.

Gary Bettman makes 8 million for what? Sitting in an office all day? Maybe reduce everyone's rediculous salaries and give it to charity. Then they will get my sympathy. A lockout for a guy making 500K a year. Or a layoff for a single dad making 30,000 a year. Wake up.

It's a sport that generated an estimated 3.3 billion dollars in revenue in 2012. So players salaries and revenue that the teams make is based off of that. So why should they only make 1-2M? What's that based on? It's just a random number pulled out of a hat. The NHL is a business, not a charity. And I don't think anybody is asking for any sympathy. I don't hold it against anyone who is able to earn and command that type of income.

Unfortunately this is the 3rd. Fall of 94 was bad - no NHL or MLB.

3 month 1 week and 3 day lockout stretched from October 1, 1994 to January 11, 1995

and there was a strike before that in Spring 92.
