I don't really care where these players go. They could get a part time job at Best Buy for all it matters.
Call me when the season starts. |

if the NHL and NHLPA really cared about the fans and not the money there wouldn't be a lockout right now. after all they are arguing over the revenue we give to them. it's just billionaires and millionaires arguing over money.
neither side care enough to take a pay cut. - LizzyJo
I am thinking that the 16 franchises that are breaking even or losing money, probably think that with $3.3BB in revenue, they should be able to make a little money as an owner/franchise. cut the pie in half and tell the owners - you figure out your side (revenue sharing, move some teams around, whatever)- but at that point if you cant make money - move the team - but dont ask for more $ from the NHLPA and move on.
At least that is what I think. |

Really you think the players are going to have trouble putting food on the table? Isn't minimum salary like 500k per year? - rathagor
I believe that I heard that they are getting their 8% that was held back from last year's paycheck, so that should provide some relief for a bit so they can sit and play Wii for another couple of weeks. After that maybe we will see a bit of movement...

I am sure a few sound owners lost money due to long term contract signing bonuses
Owners say they don't like long term deals yet they do it and front load them and cry poor
I am sick of it |

True - You would think that would be considered when taking into account whether or not they made money that year.
I guess it isnt the case of the Pegula's of the world, where this is play money. In a league where there is $3.3 BILLION dollars in revenue, you would expect that every owner should expect to make a little money each year, and definitely not lose money... |

Tom Golisano ran the Sabres "within its means" to make reasonable profit and stay afloat. The team was mediocore and basically boring to watch.
Teams desire to get good and win the Stanley cup is what drove salaries through the roof. Can you be mad at your owner for trying to give you what you want? I'm sure we can trade uncle Terry for Cousin Tom if you would like. |

They do it because it's the cost of doing business at this point and time. If you're running a fleet of busses, you don't simply stop buying gas because you feel gas prices are too high. You keep paying the prices to keep things running like normal, but all the same, you lobby to get them lower. The difference, here, is that the owners have the ability to do something about player salaries. |

they have the ability yes... but they are competitors, you can't just set a price for a certain player and expect everyone to abide by it because that is what the "owners" agreed to.. If you want a player you are going to go get him and to back off because you might be over paying by 75k is not going to happen. |

What I meant was the ability through the CBA. The last part of your post is 100% correct. It's why I said: "it's the cost of doing business right now". Until that changes, which it has not, the owners have to play by those rules, and operate under the assumption that things won't change favorably (for them). You don't just stop because you are trying to negotiate lower revenue percentages. |

That would make for quite the collusion lawsuit. |
