So yesterday I learned here that players don't get paid except bonuses or except if they are injured (thanks guys). But how does the clock run on the term of their contracts if there is a lockout? Meaning, does this still count as year 2 on Roo's 3 year deal if there is a lockout for the whole season? Or does that make the next year year 2?

And what happens if a player plays outside the NHL and gets injured during so? Is the whole remaining contract void?

The AHL ruled today that non-entry level NHL players on two-way contracts can play in the AHL this season (without having to be placed on waivers by their NHL club) on an AHL contract if the player was on the AHL Clear Day List last spring.

For the Flyers, that means Marc-Andre Bourdon can join the Phantoms without requiring waivers. Tom Sestito was not on the Clear Day List (due to injury) last spring, and is ineligible for AHL play without waivers.

For NHL purposes, they are in limbo but no one will sign them (and they'll no doubt become RFAs again once there's a new CBA).

Bill - any estimates, in terms of cash flow on a one year basis, that the highest team makes and the lowest team loses? Going all in on TV contracts, ticket sales, food, parking, etc....

The first question I would have is how do you make the poorest teams whole without reducing their incentive to make money/get better/become more efficient.

If you're a Democrat, you give the Pirates a little bit of something and tell them things will get better (i.e. lie).

If you're a Republican (I am BTW), you just tell the Pirates to go to hell.

If you guys are bored, come over to the Pens thread. For now, we are talking football death pool.

In an ironic twist, I'm quite popular and well regarded on the Pens thread. I even received an Internet trophy.

I know right? If the team sucks, it's their own fault for putting themselves there.

Personally, I think all teams that don't win their league's championship should be unconditionally terminated at the end of each season. It's time to separate the wheat from the chaff!
