I don't expect any players to come to this circus happily. Would you? I sure as hell wouldn't but I wouldn't file a grievance. Theres a difference. It's sad that I have to explain that to you. Why would anyone want a player on their TEAM that is fighting not to be on their TEAM? No one is chasing their tail. Did you just spend the last few hours trying to figure that one out? Hopefully you can understand this? It gets tiring having to explain every part of a post to you. I do feel bad thats why I oblige most of the time but its becoming draining. I'm sure you have heard this before? - Cptmjl

I certainly wouldn't cry about that one, but I'm still not convinced he's worth that much. If it's what it takes to keep him around, then fine by me. - eichiefs9
I think presently he is worth that much. His game has gotten better and should continue to do so. |

If Matt Martin scores 15 goals this year everyone's gonna be saying we got a bargain at 1.5 per. This guy is needed......he knows it. He should have been extended. You can't ask a guy to be tough and lead by example and then haggle when it comes time to ante up. He earned an extension. |

Seriously. If you are going to jump in a convo go back and read what was said. When you are done reading try to understand what was said. Start over. It's very easy, you'll get it eventually. |

I he scores fifteen goals this year I'd be estatic. I see him being a ten goal grinder which is awesome. Kid is exactly what this club nears more of. I'm more worried about Boyes scoring fifteen goals this year |

It all depends on who crappy sticks MM with. I for one thought he should have seen time with JT last year. I also think he should be on PP2 parking his a$$ in front of the net. A guy like him who's tough to move and physical drains the dman trying to move him. Advantage isles... |

It does but when it happens every post and every blog and his objective is to belittle someone it becomes ridiculous with him being the ridiculous part. If the guy wasn't trying to be a shat it wouldn't be as annoying but he is being malicious as always. I'm embarrassed for him. |

What are you talking about. The islanders are the softest team in the league. Matt Martin did his job and did it well. It's not his fault he was buried on the 4th line. He still went out and played the body every single game. To me, that should be rewarded with an extension. To me, you should reward your guy for setting an example. Who are they rewarding with extensions. Grabner, Okposo??? This is what gets extended? Guys who don't play the body?
You say, yeah it's great he plays the body, but should he get a raise because of that?
The answer Jethro is yes he should. Even if it's a multi year deal with a small monetary raise. He's part of the core. He's homegrown. - kindlyrick
Nobody said he shouldn't get a raise. The question is "how much?" You don't know what he's been offered or what he's demanded. For all you know, the Isles offered him a fair raise and Martin's camp are being pigs (I have no idea if that's the case, and that's my point).
Its all business. Its negotiation. This is how it takes place. The Isles aren't going to back the truck up for Martin when he's an RFA. The two sides will get together on a fair deal. |

i also wanted to see MM on the top line with JT and MM....more for JTs protection but im sure MMs offensive game would have gotten a boost being on the 1st line. |

I won't disagree with you that he deserves a modest raise, but I won't ever agree that he belongs on the top line or on any PP unit. The big body in front is all well and good but if he can't put the puck in the net it's useless. |

hahahahahaha....ill blame this on your memory as well....direct quote....
"Ask yourself this. Do the islanders have another Matt Martin on their team? How about in bport?"
- LetsGoIsles[/quote
Im sorry but is carkner a forward? Did that need to be explained. I thought you could figure that one out.....Matt Martin is a forward and there is no one else on the team to replace him. Should I now paste 100 smiley faces? |

If given the chance he could put in a garbage goal here or there while causing havoc in the crease Disrupting the PK. That can be worth it's weight in gold. Probably do a better job than Rolston? |

What you and a few others said was being the league leader in hits wasn't a big deal and shouldn't mean he gets a raise. I disagreed. |

Rolston played the point, but regardless Martin doesn't have nearly enough skill to warrant a spot on the PP. I'd rather see Ullstrom there. I'm not trying to dump on him, he's one of my favorite players. But putting him with JT or on the powerplay is just not the right move. |

It works both ways. Without the ice time you don't produce as much point wise. When the isles second PP unit was struggling why not change it up and give someone else a chance. As crappy said "the best players will play". B.s. the same guys played the PP. After Tavares' line see's the first PP they should give a hungry guy like Matt Martin a chance.

I'm aware Rolston played the point appreciate the info though. Was referring to his effectiveness on the PP. The couple times he was put on there(Ithink one of the games was Toronto?) I thought he looked pretty good. Someone needs to get in front of the net. |

After missing the playoffs however many years in a row, there are no right moves. Changes needed to be made. Not every goal is a Tavares Moulson one timer. Sometimes goals happen by going to the net (you hear that Okposo).
You wont hear me complain about ulstrom gettin PP time |

To me Ullstrom bridges the gap between size and skill nicely. Similar size (lighter) to Martin and a hell of a lot more skill. |
