If it were up to me I would change the salary cap structure. Make it so the cap hit isn't the average of years and dollars and make it what the player gets paid that year. That would eliminate these 14 year contracts and bring salaries back down to earth. Make an amnesty rule just like in the NBA where you can waive a player and not have it count against your cap. Just 1 player per year though. Have more incentive based bonuses that do not count against the cap. Player scores 40 goals he gets an extra 3 million, or something like that. The players would make more money the better they played. What a concept huh? Wipe out the over 35 rule because the teams have already figured out you can just put the player on LTIR until the contract is up and not have it count against your cap anyway. Just a few ideas....

First of all, you can't have money paid to a player that doesn't count against the Cap. Think about it. Teams would be coming up with loophole after loophole to circumvent the Cap. And secondly, you just can't place any player on LTIR you feel like. He has to have a legitimate injury and it has to be approved by the League. And there is a process for the League to challenge that.

And really none of your suggestion addresses the key issues between the League and the NHLPA.

My mistake then. What is the Snider/Comcast/NBC connection?
- Canada Cup

Snider is the Chairman of the Flyers and Comcast-Spectacor. Which is the Company that owns the Flyers. Brian L. Roberts is the Chairman of Comcast, the Cable giant that is the company that owns Comcast-Spectacor, and is Ed Snider's boss!

I really don't know if anyone else is interested like myself but I have called the Rochester Americans to see if there is a TV internet package available for just Rochester games. I might be willing to purchase. These games could be watched via computer

I know they have an entire AHL package available at an out of sight price of $500+ which has no value if you're only interested in just one team.

The PR/media guy Warren is going to look into it . If you want to support the idea like myself call him at (585) 454-5335 Ext 125 and help move the idea along

No, there needs to be lockout...
This league needs to remove the teams that need to be supported year after year with cities that can fiscally support them or retract the number of teams overall.
I think the league would be better off if we could reduce about 150 plug players and allow those good players from those good teams to go to markets that will go watch them play...

I didn't say any of the things I was suggesting were addressing issues between the 2 sides. Just what I would do if I could change the structure. I do agree though about paying money that didn't count against the cap. Maybe the bonus would have to be approved by the league? I don't know, just putting some ideas out there. Guess thats why I am here and they are there right?

won't happen my friend because these teams paid entry fee money and to drop certain teams will cost NHL mucho money not to mention lawsuits

Nbc owns comcast, comcast owns the flyers, snider is chairman of the flyers.

It's the other way around. Comcast owns NBC.

In a Salary Cap World, there is not going to be free money paid to a player that doesn't count against the Cap. That would be an even bigger advantage for the large market teams over the small market teams.

This wouldn't surprise me, this is how the NBA lockout ended. However I'm an eternal pessimist, so.

The secret talks don't typically start until the season is in real danger.

If you honestly think this is a plausible endgame for the lockout I got bad news for you.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with revenue sharing, and people who rally against it as a concept are wasting their time. Both the NHL and PA agree it's necessary they just disagree on how to fund it.

He's basically proposing a soft cap, and there's simply no way it would control salaries better than a hard cap. Hell, the NHLPA isn't even challenging the hard cap, because it's the system every league wants and they know they can't beat the owners on it.

And to complete the links, NBC bought Versus and rebranded it NBCSports. which is who holds the "cable" part of the NBC-NHL contract.

A 10-yr CBA runs only a year or two past the end of the NBC contract, which hardly offers stability when it comes up for renewal. IN that respect a CBA that expires a year or two before the TV contract would allow a new CBA to offer a longer period of stability when time for renewal.
