Even if you can't get a comparable, you need to take a look at it. I'm sure there will be others that get bought out that we can replace him with.

Honestly it would be nice if they opened up re-negotitations to get contracts down.

Give the players the chance to stay if they want to. Heck I'd even be okay with telling Horc that we'll give you the 13mil that is owed to you over the next 3 years, but make it over 4 years.

- Lahey

I agree. One get out of jail free card is a stupid idea imo. It rewards foolhardy contracting. Contract restructuring provides the possibility to work something better out. The NFL employs it pretty successfully. I can see a guy like Horcoff wanting to stick around Edmonton if he can help it. We owe him 13 mil, even upping it to 15 over 4 years seems like it would be palatable to both sides.

It's a one-step process or two-step process, depending on what happens with the new CBA.

One thing I will say to play devil's advocate against myself, is that I'm assuming that Gagner won't become a capabale two-way player, that Pitlick won't be ready to step into that role, or that Belanger won't bounce back, etc. There's truly a lot up in the air.

The NFL employs it successfully because there is rules that help them. I.E. If the player wants more money and holds out he gets fined every day or if the player won't take less money his ass gets cut.

NHL is a long way away from this.

I don't know that if we buy out Horcoff today that tomorrow we find a replacement. It might take 20 games or so for a trade to work itself to us.

Belanger IMO doesn't need to bounce back. We don't need him and Horcoff or whoever to be putting up points. We need them to be keeping the puck out of our net. The points are just a bonus at this point.

I think people are taking the video way too seriously. Sure it was one sided for the players. But really, was he supposed to include video clips of owners signing cheques with dramatic music? That just doesn't get the blood pumping the same way as hockey clips do. It's main purpose I think was just to raise awareness about the coming lock out and try to get fans more involved. It shouldn't be over-analysed.

As for Matt Duchene wanting out of Colorado, don't really believe it, but there would be 29 teams lining up to get him. The Avs could probably get a fairly sick return for him.

Landeskog as a captain is a horrible move by Av's management. They're going to piss off their vets, as well as guys like Duchene. I'd be a little irritated seeing Hall with the C within the next couple of years. Let some of the other vets fall off first, and let him carry an A to begin with.

Well you don't have to be old to be a good leader, but I'm not exactly one to give a sophmore the C. Isn't Hejude on a one year deal? Not sure why this wasn't done after the 12-13 year.
- Lahey

If you actually read the news, Hejduk did not want to be the captain anymore.

Just offered Laughs 90K a year for a "Human Recources" gig. Idiots like this have no clue they are about to get sold into sex slavery. Judging by the way he talks he is definatly a virgin. I will be taking bids for the next 24 hrs and Lahey holds the reserve at 50$. I do have a hunch Raveen might try and sneak in there last minuite Hester style.

You said Oilers will finish ahead of the Avs last season as well. The Avs almost made the playoffs last season. Landeskog was the main reason why. I would take one Landeskog, over 3 RNH's any day. It doesn't matter if RNH is a better scorer. Landeskog is a winner. He is worthy of being their captain. Oilers will be last again, while you hate on teams that do something in the off-season like Minny, Carolina and even the Avs added Parentaue. I think they will make the playoffs. I was waiting for when you would troll on the Avs naming Landeskog their captain lol

- Oh, and btw, that video Janne Makkonen made; the NHL - Together We Can #NoLockout thing is a huge piece of manipulation that makes me more and more angry every time I consider it. Everyone is going crazy over the video, posting and reposting it on Twitter...It's absolutely shameless and borders on embarrassing for the players. Yes, it's dramatic. An interesting thing to watch. Heck, it's well produced too. Very entertaining. But under the sparkle is a sickly twisting of reality. Perhaps the players want to retain all the money they currently earn. Fine. Perhaps certain teams make bucketfuls of money. Fine. But for teams like Phoenix, Nashville, Dallas and St. Louis, changing the financial order in the NHL is imperative to survival. Perhaps the players haven't created the financial issues for teams, but as employees, they should have every motivation to help all teams to be profitable. What's good for the business is good for them too. Everyone needs to work together. Earning 57% of league revenues is a little ridiculous when you think about it, especially considering how other major league sports in North America divide up the bucks.
- Maxbone

Agreed. Looking at the comments on Youtube, it literally blows my mind how easily people are manipulated. They're sheep.

Every scounting report on him before he was drafted said Future NHL captain material, natural leader. Captain in Juniors, Alternate Captain for Swedish World Juniors and Alternate Captain for Swedish Mens World Championship teams.

Safe to say he knows what those roles are about

I have no Problem with the Avs making him captain, he's a hell of a player, i think it was a good move

And im sure when Chicaco and Pitts named Toews and Crosby young captains it caused huge issues in the locker room.

He was going to be the captain after Hejduk, there was no question about that, so when Hejduk didnt feel comfortable doing it anymore, why would the Avs just put the C on someone else just to give it to Landy a year or 2 later.

He hits, scores, blocks shots, fights (in junior), plays a smart 2way game, everything you want in a captain, so hes 19 that doesnt mean he doesnt deserve it.

- DDM-Coga

With any luck it will ruin his career.
