I agree. It's just that our management have been really in the past at filling simple needs. I'm not convinced they'll go out and get such a player. Even if they do get a player, he might not be as good, or might not mean that much in savings (Somewhere around Gaustad, Stoll, Fisher i.e 3.5 million)
From my perspective, (a player like) Horcoff is an integral part of the Oiler's potential for success. And after struggling three years of Horcoff's contract, two things have changed: a) compared to the NHL, he's not as overpaid as he used to be and b) the prevalence of cap floor teams taking on big contracts for financial reasons has risen. I'm not convinced that in a year or two's time, he won't be moveable.
But like I said, it's all about what they'd do if they sent him packing. Horcoff without replacement on the Oilers could easily spell disaster. - Morris
IT's funny how much the majority of oiler fans have a massive level of contempt for shawn horcoff.. including myself. but really if he had a 2 million dollar contract instead of 5+ he'd be a top commodity at every trade deadline for a team looking for a solid veteran who is great on the dot, has cup final experience... etc. ... thanks kevin lowe. you made us all hate shawn horcoff lol |

It doesn't matter because if you keep Horcoff it's going to led to skilled players being dealt. Do you wan thtat?
And they signed Belanger is that not a need filler? |

Plus Why all the Avalanche hate, you were certain we were going to be bottom feeders last season too.
There is nothign wrong with naming Landy as captain, doesnt "mean we have problems with our roster". Seriously if you guys draftred him instead and made him captain instead of Horcoff you would claiming how this is a great move as the kid is a natural leader. |

That's just it, I've been able to handle Horcoff because he brings some things to this team. But it's coming to a point where keeping him might hurt us. |

Naming Landeskog captain is just plain dumb. You honestly think the vets on the team are going to bow down to a 19 year old kid? |

And im sure when Chicaco and Pitts named Toews and Crosby young captains it caused huge issues in the locker room.
He was going to be the captain after Hejduk, there was no question about that, so when Hejduk didnt feel comfortable doing it anymore, why would the Avs just put the C on someone else just to give it to Landy a year or 2 later.
He hits, scores, blocks shots, fights (in junior), plays a smart 2way game, everything you want in a captain, so hes 19 that doesnt mean he doesnt deserve it. |

as long as his cap hit doesnt bite us when they need to resign yaks, nuge etc. if it comes to the point where that hurts then i'd be pissed. He is a solid checker, PK, faceoff man. But no wonder renney was let go. I heard over the weekend that both hall and eberle absolutly hated renney.. And i didnt hear why but i'm assuming it had alot to do with the fact horcoff/smyth etc was playing so much.
It almost seemed as tho renney was alloting ice time by how big your contract was. hall, eberle, nuge, gagner. those guys should have been getting 19 min a game not horcoff. It couldnt have been any worse than getting 29th overall lol. - SPIbanez
Well that's just it if the cap goes down and there is no rollback Horc will be an issue.
13-14 we have 43.5mil committed to 9 forwards, 4 defense and a goalie. |

I don't precisely think that's true. The entire financial state of the league is too up in the air to say anything with certainty. And on our team, by the time all the kid's contracts are up, Horcoff will literally be the only other player under contract. I think we've got an opportunity to keep anyone we choose to.
And as I say, I'm not convinced that we will never be able to move Horcoff's contract when there's only a year or two left.
Who knows whether Belanger could take over for Horcoff. It did look like it until he came here, I'll give you that. I'm not opposed to replacing Horcoff, I'm opposed to ditching Horcoff just because we perceive his contract might be cumbersome down the road. |

If the cap goes down and there is no rollback there will be absolute chaos in the league. That's an appocalypse state to worry about. But yeah, in the situation where the cap goes down with no rollback and with an amnesty clause, and provided we could replace him with a comparable player for a considerable saving, I agree we should get rid of Horcoff. |

I really don't think anyone is going to want a 3mil salary for Horcoff in 14-15.
Again take a look at 13-14, there is going to be some issues.
If there is a free buyout that doesn't count against the cap, you think long and hard about using it. |

Even if you can't get a comparable, you need to take a look at it. I'm sure there will be others that get bought out that we can replace him with.
Honestly it would be nice if they opened up re-negotitations to get contracts down.
Give the players the chance to stay if they want to. Heck I'd even be okay with telling Horc that we'll give you the 13mil that is owed to you over the next 3 years, but make it over 4 years. |

Every scounting report on him before he was drafted said Future NHL captain material, natural leader. Captain in Juniors, Alternate Captain for Swedish World Juniors and Alternate Captain for Swedish Mens World Championship teams.
Safe to say he knows what those roles are about |

Well you don't have to be old to be a good leader, but I'm not exactly one to give a sophmore the C. Isn't Hejude on a one year deal? Not sure why this wasn't done after the 12-13 year. |

3 million might be the going rate for a 3rd line centre in 14-15. Recent 3rd line center contracts are in and around that (Gaustad, Peverley, Kelly, Stoll). It's not something to either rely on or rule out.
I agree about the free buyout, all I'm saying is that it's a two-step process (with step two being have a replacement lined up). |

It's a one-step process or two-step process, depending on what happens with the new CBA.
