Stastny, O'Reilly, and Erik Johnson seemed to be next in line... getting passed over for a 19-year-old is a bit of a slap in the face to them, no?
- Tomahawk

Possibly, but Landeskog does have all the attributes one looks for in a captain. He's very mature and well grounded from what the media writes about him.

It's definitely a bold move, that has built in risks.

I think you're being disingenuous, you really think I'm disturbed.

Good to know we're in decent shape with the prospects.

After years of waiting for Gagne, Williams, Carter, Richards, Downie and Giroux to come up. Am I the only one not overly excited by Cousins and Laughton being our top prospects? We have been spoiled.

He's more mature than me, and I'm twenty years older. Bold move for sure.
- Jsaquella

Is that really much of an accomplishment though?

I'm surprised it's not Statsny. I have no idea what the dynamic is on that team though.

Not really....kind of like not being as fat as Louie Anderson.

Would you put him ahead of K. Primeau in terms of best captains of all-time?
- bradleyc4

Is this serious?

Are we comparing Messier to Primeau?

Welcome new guy..

I think you are forgetting that we have G, Simmonds, Schenn, Couts, Voracek, and to a lesser degree Wellwood and Rinaldo... who are all under 24. Its not like Williams, Gagne, Carter, Richie, etc,etc all came up in the same season.

Right now we are set with young talent. We have guys like Laughton and Cousins who could be VERY good 2 way physical players. You can never have enough of them.

It was brought to a head by so many peoples head scratching hero worship of a player who contributed so little to the team. I think I lost it when they began calling for his jersey to be retired. Someone needed to point out the obvious.

Im not. They seem to be pretty upset with how Stastny has developed over the past few years.. He went from being a point a game player basically, to a 55 point player. Not only that but werent there rumblings of issues with him out there? Not as interested, drop in compete level, etc?

Barber did a terrific job as a head coach for all of the other NHL teams he was with.

He's been put with less and less effective linemates the past couple of seasons... part of it is the emergence of O'Reilly and Duchene... the other is that they rely on him to elevate guys like McGinn and Jones with his playmaking.

He's been rumored to be on the trade block from time to time, but who knows if that really means anything.

His father alleging that the Avs "destroyed" their team by dealing for Erik Johnson also didn't seem to sit well with the Avs... although we all know today that he was pretty much right.

He went from nearly a ppg player to a second line center. He had guys like Hejduk and Stewart playing with him, but still wasnt the same. Add to that the issues, like his old man yapping, and its a no brainer why he wasnt selected.

No doubt about it.

But how many 5-OT playoff games did Brind'amour end?

He had a good series against T.O. He and Gagne came through in game 6 vs Tampa. People mostly remember the hype, the hatrick vs Toronto, the goal and assist in that game 6 against Tampa but they don't remember that Roenick, Zhamnov and Amonte carried the bulk of the offense that playoff run and weak penalty killing in the Tampa series is what ended it. Losing D left and right didn't help the cause.

It's like the 5 OT goal. You'd think from the play it gets he was a playoff hero but that was the only goal he had in that playoff year.

I can name 25 Flyers centers that had better careers with the team than Primeau did including Brind'Amour.

I really don't feel like arguing about that dope today though.

Thanks BRAD!!
