The truth is, Garth will continue to keep adding and adding until 2015. Thats when he's gonna make that Ryan Smyth type trade. Until then, he's gonna keep things status quo
- kindlyrick

If all we have to look forward to is a "Ryan Smyth-type" trade in 2015 then sadly, it will have been a waste to wait all that time. Remember, we didn't win two games in the playoffs with the "Ryan Smyth-type" trade, which wasn't orchestrated by Garth, it was Tamby dumping a player about to become a FA and the Oilers weren't making the playoffs. Kinda like that guy PA-what's his name? But Garth wouldn't admit defeat at the deadline so he held onto him thinking that no other team would offer him more $$$ or have an organization better to play for than us.

But, and I've been saying this for two months,....why is it not possible to pull, say, a Bobby Ryan trade NOW? We have assets. They can't ALL make the team. A good GM would know NOW who has better than average trade value but probably won't be a top player in 10 years.

Status quo = losing record every year, no playoffs, crap coach, hoarding prospects, miserable fan base? Funny, I usually would call that "Failure". Oh wait..........

As Islander fans on this site to expect that from Snow is too much. He some how is labled as a good GM or it's "Wangs fault" for hiring him but to expect a trade for someone like Ryan is just ludicrous by no fault of Snow of course. It's (frank)ing insane how people on here think this guy is doing a good job when he has millions to play with just to reach the floor and his big acquisition is a guy who is filing a grievance bcs he had a no trade clause(again not Snow's fault?)who obviously at this time wants nothing to do with this team and a guy who had 20 points last year to replace PA's 67? He's a great GM.

Most on here do. Every year is the year that Snow HAS to do something to reach the floor. He has to spend 12 mil to reach it. Why spend it on garbage? He then goes and spends it on garbage. Your answer to this is it's Wang's fault?
- Cptmjl

The answer to that question is yes if you subscribe to the theory (which almost all here believe) that Wang has created such a poor, circus like atmosphere and made the organization a laughing stock to the point where no quality free agents will sign here and no player will waive a NTC to come here. Snow must sign those aging vets and reclamation projects (ie:crap) in order to reach the cap floor.

I don't either. Wang is not going to suddenly transform into a sane, sound, good owner. I don't know why some of these guys have this notion? The guy is who he is. Players are not going to suddenly want to come here because we have a new arena. Everyone says it's Wangs fault these days. Well guess what? If we get the new arena deal he is still going to be the owner and Snow is still going to be our GM. Those same players that didn't want to come here before because of the circus are not going to come to that same side show with a new arena. Snow has done nothing with the millions he HAD to spend. What is he going to do with in excess of those millions? Sign more shat? Unfortunately it is what it is. I just can't deal with the burying the head in the sand routine some of these guys have. It sucks I'm not happy about it either but lets not sit here and be naieve enough to say Snow is doing a great job and all will change in 2015. Again, these same people were saying for the last 3 years that Snow had to make a big splash to reach the floor and we all know how that turned out. Don't we?

I'll tell you what Steve Yzerman did.........he picked up a solid vet goalie from the isles for a bust of a prospect!

I dont care what the masses say. Anyone with any brain would know that PA was going to go for his payday. He was NOT signing with the isles. Knowing this, Garth needs to be proactive and get something for him. I dont care if its a 2nd round pick........its an asset. Again, the theme of Garths tenure on the island is this. POOR ASSET MANAGEMENT. His job isnt to draft the highest scoring pt getting in the OHL......anyone could have picked Tavares. His job is to manage his assets, which to me, he's failed!

- kindlyrick

they got a prospect for a 40 year old goalie..because that prospect didn't develop its garth's fault?? were you expecting hedman in return??

Are you not getting this? The whole point of this discussion is about risk. "Garth was told PA wanted to resign"??? Come on man, you're better than that. PA was going to cash in, just like Jason Blake did. Thats about as obvious as obvious can be. You're not going to get a 5th rounder for a guy who has 30 goals......its just that simple. Knowing he's going to go to the highest bidder, and knowing you have a ceiling as to his contract........its better to realize you cannot keep him and get ANY kind of asset in return. Because in the end, you got nothing for a guy who scored 30 goals.....

Wizniewski was traded for the simple fact that the islanders did not want to spend the money on his salary for the remainder of the season. It had NOTHING to do with retaining his rights!

- kindlyrick

did you see the contract wiz got?? you want that on your team??

i dont get why everyone is such a Snow Hater.

He has rebuilt our farm system. Traded away all the milbury garbage with exception of DP who is untradeable.

Snow signs Tavares, KO, Grabner to better deals than most other players are getting way more.

Hamonic was great find. As as Matt Martin, Donovan, Ullstrom and Poulin all from the Bailey draft.
Strome, Nino, Kabonov, Petrov and Cizakis all could impact players in NHL in few years.

Moulson, Grabner and Streit were all excellent finds. as was PA. Good discipline for not overpaying PA, whose stats will drop as did jason blakes.

The same year we got Bailey. the target guys by all fans on this Message board was Filatov or Schenn. It was not Eberle, karlson or Myers as some of you love to suggest now.

Without a doubt the Barclay Center is appealing, but then the Pilgram State property has been demolished...build the Lighthouse there....great access. I'm sure Cuomo is listening...

I live about 10 minutes from the Pilgrim State property, not really an option. There is the Sag PKWY & the LIE right there, but 2 lanes to get to an arena on an already crowded road Monday-Friday, plus still no RR access, Deer Park station is close but not right there like at Penn Station or the 7/4 trains for the Mets & Yankees.
