What ever happened to the idea about selling cap space.... I liked that one - Alexzanki
They should just drop the salary floor. That would be the same thing and it would keep inflated player values down and ticket prices. |

I don't expect this proposal to become reality. It has disaster written all over it.
For example: What happens if there's another team ownership crisis in the future such as the (hopefully soon-to-be resolved) one in Phoenix, where the NHL is compelled to take over the ownership yet the team itself is a playoff-caliber club?
What sort of objective criteria would there be for determining which club "needs" the first overall pick the most based on its financial need? How would having the first pick change the club's financial picture, anyway? If not for re-organization of ownership and the new arena being approved in Pittsburgh, for example, it likely wouldn't have ultimately mattered that they had all those top-end picks (and resulting on-ice resurgence). - bmeltzer
And would Bettman have given away the top 12 picks this year to New Jersey, Columbus, Florida, Phoenix, St. Louis, Anaheim, the Islanders, Dallas, Colorado, Carolina, Minnesota and Tampa Bay? |

Until we move to Brooklyn in 2 years and despite Wang sucking we will become a high revenue team. - latorrem1
Yes, can't wait to see the Islanders play in an arena with no seating behind one net. |

i'm sure this could change but that arena will hold less hockey fans than nassau. 14,500 is hockey attendance and 18,000 is basketball. not sure where 3500 seats go. in boston the celtics capacity is only about 1000 more seats. if not less. |

two thoughts....
1) atleast the Oilers won't get the Pick
2) so you give a player that may be a superstar and want to be paid a gillzillion dollars after his first contract? |

So what happens if Bettman does this and that player pulls a Shultz.... just not sign.... dum dum dum..... stupid idea.... |

Gimme a minute, I'll get the schematics.
But essentially the owners of the new stadium greatly reduced the footprint of the building to reduce costs.
One of the consequences of that is the actual floor space is now not able to accommodate a 200 X 85 rink, without doing some pretty silly gymnastics.

Gee, I wonder if this would open the possibility of Bettman being bribed?
Sorry, but this gives Bettman WAAAY too much power and influence, and would inevitably become a Pandora's Box of bullsh!t!
To be honest, I am so (frank)in' tired of all the rules changes, tinkering, cute solutions and bandaids. Whatever happened to just letting the players play and letting the chips fall where they may?
Damn, I miss old time hockey. |

How weird would it be to play in this at capacity?
As you skated over the blue line, the crowd noise would drop significantly. It would be quiet behind the net. |

Great idea. In fact, let Bettman assign all picks based on financial stability. - robin_steele264
an even better idea is letting bettman assign 1st overall picks to the team(s) that continue to support the 'also ran' franchises. |

It can't be.
That's the point.
And further, Wang has absolutely no interest in being a tenant in another building.
His hold purpose of owning the Islanders is to use them as an anchor for a giant real estate development, since he can use public funds.
Moving to Brooklyn doesn't help him. At least not moving to a building in Brooklyn that he doesn't own. |

Players shouldn't be able to air their dirty laundry through the media by asking/demanding trades, ultimately lowering their value and usually handcuffing the GM.
I think it could and should be considered a form of tampering and the player should be HEAVILY fined or various clauses in their contracts voided. |
