while towns like phoenix, tampa, los angeles, miami all have big populations, the reason sports dont do so well there is because it is towns full of transplants. also the weather is beautiful so people would rather be out doing anything outside rather than go to a game. i think the reason why these markets are still kept is because the players love living in these areas.
the only 2 markets that never made any sense to me was atlanta and columbus.....im on the fence bout nashville, it kinda seems like they are coming around.

For Atlanta, Ted Turner wanted a team. He said he would put the games on TBS.
It was a no-brainer for the league.
Yes, it didn't work out, but anyone saying they shouldn't have been awarded a franchise is merely using 20/20 hindsight.
