Bettman is holding up the NHL season because he wants to let Crosby fully Heal from his concussion!
it all makes sense now - Habitants98
If season is cancelled, Habs have a decent shot at another lottery pick |

actually how does that work anyways? is it the same few teams for the lottery if there's a lockout for a full season? i mean i dont remember in 04, i jus remember the sick World Junior team and the subsequent even sicker Calder race in 05 |

they had a lottery draft where the odds work based on the final standings of the last season played. |

WAIT A SEC!!! F THIS LOCKOUT!!!!
NOBODY'S THINKING OF TEEEEEEEMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!
i'd be incredibly pissed if i was him
6 goals away from being top 10 alltime
27 away from being tied with Mario
31 away from being #7
eassentially he has a chance to pass all of these ppl 7.Mark Messier, Steve Yzerman, Mario Lemieux, Luc Robitaille, Jaromir Jagr
can also go up to 14th all time in points
this is the real travesty of this potential lockout!....oh yeah and im sure Jags can do some damage too....but he's got enough already lol |

He already lost one season. that one lockout really screwed up career points for players that were still active. |

Stupidest thing ever, if a city cant support a team MOVE THE (frank)ING TEAM! Or get rid of a few teams so the players know you are serious. Are the players really this dumb...there are teams that wont survive a lockout. Owners actually have real world skills and education not to mention billions in the bank. Most players would be flipping burgers if they couldn't play a kids game for money |

Yes, Toronto should have 5 teams. |

one difference, these places all have hockey fans. Phoenix will always be Phoenix and nobody will ever give a poop about the game. Its a totally different situation |

Or they would have to improve their organisations other ways like improving scouting and not signing bad UFA contracts or making bad trades plus top 15 pick for last placed team is still decent. Why I like my system is that I dislike the way Oilers have just ignored the goal of being competetive and just sucked so they can get better easier way. - Feppo
Improve scouting all you want, if you come in last and get the 14th pick there's no way you'll be drafting a Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos, Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins etc
Your rule would FORCE these teams to take gambles on UFA players, not the opposite. |

I don't see why the NHL would need to even do this openly. They did just fine rigging the lottery to give Crosby to the Pens to save them. No reason if there is a lockout they wouldn't just rig another lottery to give Phoenix or Columbus the #1 pick.

Let's face it ....it already happens. Remember Crosby draft? Pens didn't have the worst record that year, and were in financial trouble. Bettman bailed #66 out with Crosby. Hence Pens back on their feet. |

That is a ridiculous idea, mid-level teams with poor GM's would be screwed. Hockey should do what baseball does, if an UFA switches teams the new team forfeits a pick (the round is based on the player's skill level) to the team that lost the player. So in this scenario the Wild would have to give up 2 1st rounders (1-NJ, 1-NSH). It would put more emphasis on the draft and might deter big market teams from dominating free agency. Just an idea though |

Financially distressed doesnt mean your the worst team in the league. I dont even like the draft lottery. LAST PLACE and ONLY last place should get the #1 overall pick in the draft. - deadlockt
I disagree
How about ALL NON-PLAYOFF TEAMS have a chance of picks 1-16.
You can weight it.
Last place would have the best chance, while 16th place would have the worst chance.
This can prohibit teams from tanking, and put a better product on the ice.
It will stop bottom feeders from making these dynasty teams, with multiple number 1 selections, and put more emphasis on drafting the best player available.
This would also increase the value of the 1st rd draft picks to bad teams.
It will lower the chance of those ridiculous offer sheets, as GMs would be giving up a potential #1 overall pick. |

At this rate NHL '13 is going to suck.. Spending hours in a board room or talking to media.. refuting "insider" twitter claims.. Maybe it will give you the option to just accept the leagues offer.. |

Didn't he do that when he gave the Blackhawks the #1 Pick over Philly and Patrick Kane should be wearing a number 88 in Orange and Black |

On the face of it not a bad idea. Knowing the Leafs, they will make the first round of the playoffs every year after this is implemented. |

so, under the guise of distressed finances, which we know is so frequently concealed by clever accounting and corporate embezzlement, we are to award a #1 overall pick to a team with a negative balance sheet?...it's 2005 all over again!!!! |
