Doesn't this already happen? I seem to recall Bettman assigning Crosby to Pittsburgh... |

Someone said the draft system is perfect, I disagree. The following are my criticisms:
1) Teams that tank on purpose are rewarded, essentially ripping off hometown fans for not being competitive on the ice. This can be avoided with a good draft system.
2) Teams that are always in the margins have to draft 3 or 4 times to get an all star for every first overall team gets to draft to get an all star. F
3) What's worse? A team's points, or a team's out of playoff streak? Edmonton were in the Stanley Cup Finals before the three straight 1st overalls. Pittsburgh and Chicago also benefited from extremely high draft picks. Florida have been out of the playoffs for 10 years until last year because they were always finishing "in the margins". Florida's been the actual worst team, but they have barely smelled a top 3 pick in their long history of failure.
4) Under NO circumstances should a team get two top 3 picks in a row. Never, never, never. Regardless of points, teams in the margins miss the playoffs just as much as teams that are out of the playoffs. Calgary played about as many games in the playoffs in the last three years as Edmonton. However, Jankowski, Reinhart, and Baertschi are not Hall, RNH, and Yakupov.
In fact, I did research, and found that the first and second overall pick are worth twice as much as a 5th overall pick. - archromat
I'll bet that was some pretty scientific stuff you did.
Did you remember the Ek factors? |

I think they should start assigning the Stanley Cup to teams that are struggling to make the playoffs, that way they could give the Cup to Toronto |

People forget that the League arbitrarily assigned the #1 pick that was Eric Lindros to Quebec, bypassing San Jose. It didn't help Quebec ultimately stay in Quebec financially but it helped Colorado win a Cup with the bounty they extracted from the Flyers.. |

See? Another example of a dumb GM, as that is clearly not Rielly. - Feeling Glucky?
I saved the leaf thread when he was picked, plenty of leaf tears in that one. Yours especially were bitter. |

Maybe just make Vince McMahon commish, would be just as credible. - Ogilthorpe2
Now that would make the game marketable in the USA. Arm wrestle for the #1 overall pick and the loser has to shave his head. LOL That would be you, Scott Howson. |

$200-$300 million, from what I understand.
Money Wang won't pay to become a tenant.
Money the current building owners won't pony up just to secure an extra 41 dates (plus playoffs - calm down, Islanders fans) a year.
It's a non-starter. - Atomic Wedgie
Drop in a bucket for the current owner.
41 + dates is pretty significant!!!
Well see... it's only one option.
There trying to build a new arena again in the current location.

Financially distressed doesnt mean your the worst team in the league. I dont even like the draft lottery. LAST PLACE and ONLY last place should get the #1 overall pick in the draft. |

I mean, Bettman already did it with the 2005 draft, so they might as well make it an official power of his.
