Can we exclude any Luongo trades this week? I've had about enough of those threads.

No more Raymond or Ballard offers, either. Please.

I agree.

We all know the final deal will be for Komisarek, D'Amigo, Steckel and a 3rd.

Why do we need to keep rehashing this?

Something tells me that had the Oilers taken Seguin we would hear how Hall is better and Seguin is learning how to lose.

Just a hunch.

- robin_steele264

Bad hunch then. I see one player as better than another -- regardless of team. Sounds radical doesn't it? Bottom line: to me Seguin is a better player than Hall -- and I'd take either on my team.

Id love to see the Oilers and Kings in the playoffs just to see Hall and Doughty going toe to toe.

It would be a great show until Brown comes in and cheapshots him with a questionable hit that somehow is deemed legal by the refs

It's the playoffs, everything is deemed legal by the refs if the mood is right.

I read that Gillis was leading the charge in the GM meetings this week with Campbell around refereeing consistency or lack thereof.

You mean this shoulder to shoulder hit as he's turning? Looks clean to me

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MpEPilV3N8k

Edit: he didn't hit him in the numbers, didn't leave his feet, didn't use an elbow, Sedin had the puck.... Where's the problem?

His feet were off the ice, puck was already gone, took more than 2 strides to hit him. It could have been either charging or interference, a minor penalty, but definitely a penalty none the less.

No, I mean the knee on knee on Rozsival. I thought the hit on Henrik was legal but dirty...and I absolutely loved the elbow and glove hand slap Henrik gave to Brown after he was hit in the face by the puck.

Brown is a talented player and I would welcome him on the Canucks...I just think he is dirty player a la Raffie Torres, with a much better skill set.

Alex your right different officating in the playoffs, if Gillis and Campbell can't bring consistency to the officating I hope AV gets rid of his turn the other cheek coaching style and employs the win at all costs including not backing down and a eye for an eye style.

Ahh that makes more sense, but in my eyes any hit that is legal, isn't dirty, not in the playoffs anyways

Gillis is barking up the wrong tree. The problem is the coach. AV cannot make the proper adjustments from being a wussy to doing what it takes come playoffs. Now Gillis needs to convince the NHL to suit his one trick pony.

If we had a mean coach and a team full of intimidating players dressed every night, this would be a non issue with Gillis. With our luck, Gillis will suceed just as Kassian's nuts drop and a bunch of abrassive youth comes into its own....and we'll puke at every undeserved call.

It was 2 bad that last seasons exit from the playoffs was so quick, It seemed like the players were ready to stand up for themselves in spite of AV...I mean that was the toughest (and I mean retaliating to cheapshots and slashing) I have ever seen Henrik play period. Not saying much for the rest of the team.

I think what Gillis is looking for is not for rule changes but for the rules to remain consistent from Game 1 in the regular season through to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. In this pursuit I am in full agreement.

I think it's slightly off that it is so rare a President's Trophy winner (the best team in the league) goes on to win the cup. I realize we all like the underdog, but I don't know any sport that keeps one set of rules for a spell of time only to either dramatically tighten them up or let them go entirely based on the time of year or time on the clock. You can't plan to build a team to play a sport where the goalposts are changing all the time.

I thought I'd never say this, but last season's best hockey was played in the regular season not in the playoffs. And that has nothing to do with the Canucks losing early.

Just another head scratcher blog from Ian...I'm going to have to take you up on that blog post.

JR would be a TERRIBLE commisioner.

Seguin has shown more so far? he sat most of his rookie year and played well last year on a stacked team. Hall score 2 less goals in 20 less games.

- Iggysbff

i will say hall got overpaid ABIT.
but going with the market, there was no chance he was gonna make any less than low 5 mil, so adding abit to that for long term is a reasonable deal.

he scored 27 goals on a bad team in 61 games played. woulda broke 30, and 35 is far from unrealistic. i think eberle may be the more skilled sniper, but hall brings some things that are vital to the oilers that jordan cant.
of course he was paid on mostly potential, hes only 20 years old and only played 2 seasons.
but its a HUGE potential. not to mention avoiding any possible offer sheets seeing as we'd have 2 rfa's next year.

And how has seguin been better? i hear this from time to time from the haters, and am still mystified.
hall scored 2 less goals in 20 less games played, on a much much worse team. was probably the best player on the team for the most part in his rookie year, while seguin didnt make an impact at all until the playoffs. he may have been brought along much more slowly, but he struggled mightily early.

and please dont use the cup argument..its ridiculous.

i think it comes down to no matter who you pick or what u do, the haters will always look for ways to criticize.
as an oiler fan, i couldnt be happier that we picked hall over seguin and locked him up for 7 years.

bang on.

i also think if we wouldve taken seguin ( our future number 1 center) we may have taken larsson over rnh.
maybe not, but thank the lord for rnh!

id much rather have rnh and hall than seguin and larsson

You're of course entitled to your opinion. And I could see why you might feel that way. But your opinion doesn't qualify you to dismiss such a "hunch".

Again, I've stated it before:

Playmaker (Sequin) > Power Forward (Hall) and that's not to say that Seguin is miles ahead of Hall, he just has conceivably a higher offensive ceiling than Hall. Hall however, has more intangibles than Seguin and will likely be the more complete player and more valuable to Edmonton than Seguin will be for Boston by virtue of the fact that Boston plays a much different style/system than Edmonton who like to play a run & gun style. Hall likely will be a captain of the Oilers and likely win a Hart/Conn Smythe someday, Seguin probably won't.

See what you've done. You've started a Leafs-Luongo thing even before we get to Offer Friday.

Also, I was under the impression that he had suggested that he wanted to leave Vancouver. Missed his T.O reference.
