There are still plenty of other leagues -- KHL, Swiss National League, EBEL -- that are likely to accept NHL players on short-term contracts.

I'm sure others have expressed it, but i feel sick thinking theres going to be a long lockout. Didn't they (players and owners) learn anything last time? Just play under the old cba until it gets worked out.

My gut reaction when I saw it:

1) It's some insurance in case Niko Hovinen's hip bothers him
2) It gives the team a veteran, with Heeter possibly starting the season the ECHL

I don't think Munroe's signing necessarily precludes both Heeter and Hovinen from both making the Phantoms roster... AHL SPC's can be mutually terminated, so if Munroe is the odd-man out, he'll have the option of going elsewhere for playing time.

Also, while unlikely, there is an outside chance that one of the kids could pull a Bobrovsky and knock everybody's socks off, landing Leighton back where he belongs -- in the AHL.

its so frustrating that we are talking lockout AGAIN. this may be totally talking out of my ass but I just think the owners gave more than they wanted the last time (with the 56/57% of the pie) to get the salary cap and now are going for the rest now. I guess in today's economics I can see a 50/50 split being more realistic which I assume is what the owners will "settle" for. I would love to see what is considered revenues now and what the proposed changes are. has that been indicated anywhere?

the players said they would but the owners don't want any part of that. the problem with doing that is there really is never any urgency to get the deal done. the city of Phila workers have been without a contract for 4 years and very little negotiating has been done.

I think the fans should organize and make tickets, merchandise etc. available only through the Working For A Living People Who Die For Sports Association. Then we can go on strike and see how much money they make

1. They can take away hockey and fans will side with them
2. They can punish the players with a year worth of lost wages
3. They can take away a year of their careers
4. They can get the players to succumb to all of their demands
5. They will not come close to losing money compared to what they gain
6. The fans will come back in droves
7. They can paint "Thank You" on the ice and it will all be okay
8. They can nominally lower ticket prices then raise them 175% over the CBA term
9. Fans will drive revenues to increase 300%
10. They can do what they want because they're the owners

On top of it, its the owners who are causing all the guff by not wanting a revenue sharing system further implemented to help out the struggling franchises (and understandably so). Their solution is to make the players pay for it. So the players are tots like "(frank) you" and the Owners are like "(frank) me? No (frank) you, we'll lock ya's out" and then Bettman's all like "Thank God for Phoenix, Nashville, Florida, and Columbus" because Im all like, "If Bettman never pushed for Nashville, Phx, etc.., we likely wouldnt be in this boat". And the players are all like "Why dont we all take a bit of the share here, we'll give up some of our money, you guys (big owners) can give a little to the small owners, and Bettman can continue going on looking like



, while the fans continue acting like

So it's those people who work in and around the arenas depending on the income to support their families, and the fans who shell out more and more their very hard earned money to support the outrageous player salary decisions of the owners, who take the hit in the end. As always, we never fit into the equation.

Why can't the owners say no as easily to the Wideman's and the Leino's and the Schultz's, Garrison's, Suter's and Parise's of the FA world?

In my earlier post I kinda hinted at, it's our fault for bending over for them. By them I mean the owners. If people could at least resist buying the merchandise for a season I think that would be a nice punch in the wallet. Maybe not. yea like just don't buy jerseys and stuff. If you go to the games don't pay 25 dollars for a cup of fries and a beer. At least as fans we need to do something to stick it to them, if there isn't a season, the players are gonna get theirs but things I'm suggesting should inflict pain to those at blame.
