Have to agree with the Oiler fans. Everybody seems to know how to make the Oilers a great team. Just do this and that. How is Franson the answer? If you can get a player for a 2nd rounder, is he going to upgrade anything or are you just trading to look like your doing something. Look what happens when GM's 'do something' and force things. They make bad desperate decisions. Can't dig your self out of a whole. It's funny to think that people would change course now if they were the GM for the Oilers. Really, after all the dirty work has been done and the rewads are starting to show you would start taking risks and forcing the issue. Do you actually think it is best for the Oilers or do you hate them and hope they do it, so they don't become a great team?

Option B.

Spot analysis. The points you bring up are why the fans are fans and not GMs.

Theirs a big difference between "forcing things, making bad desperate decisions" and adding solid pieces via trade and free agency.

Totally agree, but thats why we're all here. Armchair GM's... for all this sites shortcomings (it is a "rumor" site), it gives all us fans the opportunity to spout off without worrying about assault charges...
I think the Oilers are a couple of moves away from greatness and damn right we down here are jealous of the talent. Do I think the Flames will achieve anything more than mediocrity? Nope, 9th place here we come... But the league is cyclical. If the right moves aren't made to enhance the plethora of 1st rounders you've accumulated, you'll be the Islanders and not the contenders most Oilers fans expct (in a couple of years)...

Leafs can't afford to move any dmen. Funny you mention the Oiler D... Look at the Leafs. It's brutal.
- robin_steele264

Leafs D looked bad because our goaltending was brutal...
And not to be a homer, but I would rather our top6 D, then the Oilers:
Phaneuf Gunner
Liles Gardiner
Komi Holzer/Blacker

And rumour is that Franson isn't happy with the 2yr contract Leafs offered and wants to be dealt...

So...you feel Franson will help us in some way?
- GuyLaDouche

Yep...he could be top4 on Oilers, and could potentially be the best puck moving defencemen they would have (depending how Shultz turns out)

I don't think anyone wants to see the Oil fail...they are my 2nd favorite Canadian team, and want to be successful...
Franson isn't what the Oil needs, but would help...
The Oilers need a big, top pairing Dman (like Pronger)

We blew that lead cause Roli got injured.

Which was 100% MAB's fault.

- robin_steele264

Pretty sure Rolo was in net for those three goals.[/img]

And I'm pretty sure Conklin gifted the game winner to Brindamour after MAB deep sixed Roli.

Barring injuries, he doesn't kick anyone out of our top 4, top 5 if you include J. Schultz.

Who would you put as your top5? And who is your PP QB?

Smid, Petry, N. Schultz, Whitney, J. Schultz. PP time goes to young Schultz, Whitney, and probably Petry. Potter factors in there as well as an older, cheaper Franson type.

I see you forgot when they loaded up in 07-08 only to become 3 points better.

The year they actually shot up in the standings the only guy they signed was scuderi.

Probably end up with 4 forwards on one of the PP units as well.

Are you actually arguing that their isn't value in bringing in good players via trade and free agency?

When the time is right yes, but there was really no point in spending 16mil on a bunch of guys the last 3 years. If anything it would've made us slightly better and cost us Yak and RNH.

Irrelavant. The poster I quoted was talking about how the team shouldn't do anything because it might end up bad.

That's a ridiculous mindset to take.

Go read Ek's latest blog, it's ridiculous that people come to this site considering the stuff he comes up with.
