Oiler fans should just be happy that they signed someone of significance to their team. Next test will be to get him to stay in Edmonton.

Getting paid based on potential. Hasn't had a 50 point year yet and is already going to make $6 million. Tavares' deal was a steal for the Isles. - zach parise9

Great signing, and contrary to the trolls on here, the Oilers will have no problem hanging on to all of their superstars...once Horcoff's deal is up the team will no longer be held hostage by a bad contract....Khabby is gone in 8 months! Yay! |

Players will likely end up taking another roll back so it'll be less than 6 I'd say.
Next up is Eberle.

Wouldn't it have been better to wait till all this cba junk is sorted out? |

But with that salary rollback comes a rollback in the cap ceiling. It will still occupy the same relative percent of team's total cap hit. |

It's more money than I thought it would be but he is the future captain and cornerstone of the franchise.
It seems that more often than not the contracts are larger than anticipated. |

The Oilers or any other team do not have bad contracts if they are within the salary cap range and they are winning. As long as they can start winning and getting some playoff revenue they can ride just under the cap ceiling. If they sign all this young talent and still do not make the playoffs (should never happen), then they have problems.
If they have their top 6 all making this money the are relegated have their cap to them and have approx 35 million left for the bottom 6 and goal. |
