When I look at Wellwoods speed I see an asset thats better than all of Sestitos put together.
- jak521

This. Wellwood is also a good forechecker. And in fact, I might even prefer keeping Sestito in and playing him over Rinaldo. But either way, I would rather have that speed. Plus he is a very good penalty killer, something Sestito does not do.

Maybe. I still don't see exactly where Wellwood fits. Maybe trade bait?

Time will tell!

Lets be honest - someone will get hurt and this may be a moot point. I can't imagine all our defense gets hurt and every single forward is healthy.

He fit well last season... once he got into the lineup he was pretty much a mainstay.

Seems like I am in a slight minority on Wellwood.

Anyway care to update their lineups, including Wellwood?

I personally think Wellwood will be one of the 3rd/4th line guys that will step up and play spot duty- at some point -on a higher line... His speed is that amazing. Honestly, if he had his brothers hands he would be a top 6 guy no questions asked...

I think the fact that he is a good penalty killer gives him a leg up.

Not yet.

Honestly, I would have thought Simmonds was always destined for third line duty. By signing Rusty and extending Simmonds, I think Simmonds will be their #2 winger.

I will stick to my guns and say Ryan will be a Flyer before the trade deadline.

His rookie stat line expanded over a full 82 game season:

food for thought...

I'm pretty sure it would be like what happened with Phoenix where the league steps in and runs the team until they move or a buyer takes over.

The NHL and the PA did put in a solid two hours today after taking a week off. They must be exhausted.

Oh, I get it. The only time you're working is when you're in a meeting room.

No. Bankruptcy is just a stage. See: Coyotes, Phoenix.

This is slightly different than my original post, but I can buy into it. Still like Rinaldo though.

Sestito - 13th forward. (Just ousted Jody Shelly as Mayor of the Cote Suite on 4Square)

Rinaldo - somewhere else. anywhere really, just not in the Flyers org. Dude is never going to get a fair shake from the refs and the team will suffer for it.

I think the 4th line center spot is something the team still needs to address with an FA signing or a trade. Talbot isn't right for that spot, and I'm not sure Holmstrom is ready and/or capable of filling that spot full time.

Also, I think the third line is fine for Simmonds. He'll likely still get lots of PP time, and should be able to put up decent numbers.

With the 2nd line, do you have any concerns that Read and Briere together is too weak?

I'd like for Ben Holmstrom to get a shot on the 4th line

Do you mean weak defensively or just weak (aka small)?

No concerns (beyond those that always go with Briere) defensively. Read is better defensively than Simmonds is (at least now - hopefully Simmonds improves this area of his game)..

As for size, I think they're ok. I'd rather have Read's speed and finishing to go with Briere and Schenn than Simmonds size.

I think he'll get a shot, just not sure he's ready. I guess we'll see, since there doesn't seem to be much happening with FA signings these days.
