so the nucks are making a crazy doan offer, with their 2 million in capspace? love to see how they manage to leapfrog buffalo's completely insane proposal, and not gut the team to do it.
- joel878

Realistically, if this were to actually happen, and that’s an enormous if, Canucks fans delusions of getting prime assets for Luongo would be fully out the window. They’d have to take the best offer they get, even if that offer is Vancouver packaging assets to get rid of him.

I think he will be moved. I don't see a bad contract coming back

Perfect example of the delusions I was speaking of in my first post.

that had been mentioned by some but really not documented. Somebody said research was done but never brought out to rest of us

Why would the Canucks need to beat Buffalo's offer? The Canucks are a proven winner the last few years and they have the extra benefit of being in Canada where both he and his wife are from. Buffalo is a team that needs to overpay because they don't have a proven track record of winning. The only thing Buffalo can offer is a ton of money.
- Pierceme69

The Sabres need talented youth! If there gonna shell out that money go get Patrick Kane, Bobby Ryan any time free agents get overpaid. Buffalo has the money to sign Doan but wow thats a ton of money for a 36 yr old hockey player who obviously wants to stay in Phoenix.

I would trade Vanek for Kane in a heartbeat.

Vanek is a more consistent and a more mature person. I have to disagree on this one.

I think we are seeing the downside of Vanek's career... I think injuries will catch up to him.. and I think the fact that everyone's excuse for Vanek is that he has never had a #1 center is getting OLD.. QUICKLY.. Kane is immature.. no doubt about that.. but he is younger.. quicker.. not just a garbage goal and PP specialist.. Kane is cheaper and for a longer year contract as well

If Vanek's excuse every year is the #1C crap than I say go talk to Iginla, Nash, Parise, and Kovalchuck type players about that...

This is like messier all over again for the canucks...the player really doesnt want to play there but they overpay to get guys to sign...$7 million for doan will just mess up the salary scales...inept management of gillis...

I won't flat out say you are an idiot, but I'm throwing it out there for everyone to mull over.

If Gillis has to take back a bad contract why not keep Luongo then?

If that was the case Canucks would be better to put him on waivers and let the Blue Jackets snag him

If Gillis knows doan is a coming dish luongo before leverage is lost

I'll be the first to come out and say it - if we sign Doan to anything over 5m I'll be seriously disappointed. I don't think he's worth more than Kesler and certainly not millions more than the Sedins. A old 50-60 pt player should be paid what a 50-60 pt player gets paid, not what Stamkos makes. I call serious bs on all these rumors.

60 points on the coyotes= what though on the nucks team

Because it's not JUST a bad contract. The implication is a bad contract would be a part of the package.

35-45??? take in to account he'll see 3-4 less minutes per game. especially less pp time.

Hard to say. He could be playing with better linemates, as well. He'd also still get good PP time.

I think its safe to assume you watch about 1 canucks game a year.... Sedins will be lucky to play more than a minute of a pp... they aren't used like Ovechkin used to be... their minutes get managed. Kesler averages more per game because of PK. There is a good chance Doan will get to play with the Sedins whether it be on the 1st line.. or 1st unit PP.

As people have pointed out its about quality of minutes not quantity... in Doan's case... is it better to have 22 minutes of ice time with players of less calibre.. or 18 minutes with linemates like Booth/Kesler or Sedins?

Even so... Doan would bring a different element to this team that is desperately needed... Anything between 5.5-6 million would be about right.. and I would be extremely disappointed if it got to 6.5+... I strongly believe he will sign with Phoenix for 1-2 years though.

But I thought the Owners were crying poor? And want the cap reduced? How does that make sense if they are offering all of these ridiculous big money contracts and term?

I say go back to the old days, no cap at all run your specific team how you want. if you have money to burn and want to go nuts, if you are small market then run your business that way. Outside of that, and I am sure the big market teams are tired of carrying dead weight, fire Bettman and retract/relocate 4 teams.

This is pathetic

Bahahahahahahahahaa. They averaged 3 1/2 minutes PP time a game. Both of them. Both more than Kesler too.

Now THAT is what people call “talking out of one’s ass”.

That's still silly. He says they don't play them like Ovechkin. They both got almost the exact same amount of PP time as Ovechkin.

Don't think so. No way they take Burrows off the Sedin line, and there's no point.

They want to improve the 2nd line—there's nothing wrong with the 1st, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I also don't think Doan takes Kesler's spot on the PP. Only way he gets on the 1st PP unit is if he can play the point (which I don't know if he can).

But even on the 2nd line and 2nd PP unit, he'll play with higher quality players than he did in Phoenix.
