It might be Lu for Franson if Doan signs for all that moolah - VANTEL
Burkie is smarter than that. He knows that Florida will back off for now with a possible lockout and he's going to make sure he gets rid of a bad contract in return if MG actually signs Doan and is forced to move Lu asap.

If Gillis has to take back a bad contract why not keep Luongo then?
If that was the case Canucks would be better to put him on waivers and let the Blue Jackets snag him

We'd also be over the cap(I know, I know..Ballard). But I truly believe he wants out and has told MG that already. MG and Gilman value locker room chemistry highly and I think there would be some confusion and potentially some problems if Lu returns. Possibly a divided locker room. There are certain positions in sports like an NHL goalie and an NFL QB where a clear starter hurts the team IMO. I don't think Vancouver wants a media circus the entire season with both of them.
In other words, the writing is clearly on the wall at this point.

I think he will be moved. I don't see a bad contract coming back
I'll put a hit out on Gillis if he signs him for anything close to that amount. - Nucker101
I'll be the first to come out and say it - if we sign Doan to anything over 5m I'll be seriously disappointed. I don't think he's worth more than Kesler and certainly not millions more than the Sedins. A old 50-60 pt player should be paid what a 50-60 pt player gets paid, not what Stamkos makes. I call serious bs on all these rumors.

Not like it matters, as he is obviously re-signing in Pho, but there's no way he would take such a discount to play for the Canucks. That's basically like Doan leaving $10 million on the table over 4 years, seeing as he has received offers of $7.5/4-years.
I don't think he'll sign with the Canucks, but if he did, it won't be for less than $6 million.
Also, the Sedin and Kesler deals aren't directly comparable to what Doan would make, because of the inflation in the UFA market.
$5 million doesn't buy what it used to in free agency. Lets hope Burrows and Edler don't make it there.

I'd be fine with 30 million over 5 years for Doan. I feel he can play 4 more years.
Take a chance and try to ride this core to a cup sooner over later.

I hear what you're saying but the latest rumors (not just by Ek) have him at or near 8m per. That's Steve Stamkos money on a contract he signed just last summer. Unless we're talking about post WW2 Europe inflation then these rumors are ridiculous works of poor fiction. My money is absolutely nothing new to report on the Doan front.

I agree on $7.5 to $8 million, but considering what he's been offered, $5 million is unrealistic.
I'd be ok with $6 million for 3 years, not that I think he's worth that much, but because I think he brings a lot of what the Canucks are missing, and I just can't see him leaving any more $$ on the table than that.

Agreed. Wouldn't go too much higher than that annual cap hit unless it was a two year deal.

Why would the Canucks need to beat Buffalo's offer? The Canucks are a proven winner the last few years and they have the extra benefit of being in Canada where both he and his wife are from. Buffalo is a team that needs to overpay because they don't have a proven track record of winning. The only thing Buffalo can offer is a ton of money.

See you're applying good logic, but you reeeally can't do that on this site.
The worst NHL off season continues. Maybe the season will be cancelled and we can hear about Doan next summer also? I hope Buffalo signs him and he scores 5 goals playing for Lindy Ruff.
