See you're applying good logic, but you reeeally can't do that on this site.

I think its the 1st rule in the COD
2nd rule is every offer must include a 3rd rounder
3rd rule is leafs 6th rounder is more valuable then any teams 1st rounder

Why would the Canucks need to beat Buffalo's offer? The Canucks are a proven winner the last few years and they have the extra benefit of being in Canada where both he and his wife are from. Buffalo is a team that needs to overpay because they don't have a proven track record of winning. The only thing Buffalo can offer is a ton of money.

I agree with everything you have said except your last two sentences. How do you figure Vancouver has a proven track record of winning over Buffalo? They came into the league the same time and just about even on all fronts. Both been to finals twice and both lost.

you're forgetting the most important rule of all

4) the Flyers and Leafs must always have interest in the player in question. even if it makes no sense.

Doan is good, but he's not that good! Offers certain intangibles that we really need, but that's too much money.

I'm not getting it at all is anyone else feeling the same way? There are so many rumors out there from WGR to twitter to ESPN about Buffalo offering big money to Doan. What cave have these people been inside? This is really old news and everybody has been aware for some time. It has been well aware that Buffalo was the one offering the cash....so why are all these ppl make it sound like its "HOT" news now......sheeze!!!

I guess the Sabres didn't learn from signing Leino, so now they want to give all this money to a soon- to- be 36 yr old that won't bring us a cup anyways. Good to have a new owner

What exactly does "Huge" mean. At least a ballpark would be nice
- flamminghead

JR said is was a "tremendous offer". So it must be somewhere between tremendous and huge.

(I would bet that the 1st year of the contract is for $14M/$13M signing bonus)

So you agree with half of what he said...

Also, the Canucks have lost in the finals three times

Anyone ever see the movie "Just Friends" with Ryan Reynolds?

The Sabres are like Chris Brander when the got the new owner. They used to be fat and dorky, likeable but not real desirable. Then they got skinny, rich and good looking, but instead of focusing on the future and using that to thier advantage, they just want to get with the hottest girl from high school just to prove they could have done it all along(Doan), instead of getting with any other of a millions hot pieces on earth.

edit: Then Dusty Dinkleman is the Winnepeg Jets. Not sure why, it just seems funny.

For what it's worth, hockeyy Insiderr says:

"Got confirmation from both #Canucks camp and Doan camp: no truth to alleged 5 year, $40M offer. VAN offer is 4 years, around $25M being told."

If true and Buffalo made an offer BUT Vancouver's was "huge" wonder what huge was compared to Sabres?

Big deal, don't much care, tired of hearing about Doan. Clearly he's playing in Phoenix, whether he signs for another year while they get their ducks in a row, or goes longer term, he's signing with Phoenix! Imagine how little news there would be this year if it wasn't for Doan.

Yes.....I apologize...forgot about 1982 against Islanders. Vancouver was one of the 4 victims of those 4 in a row Islanders

I think he's talking about the last couple years where the Canucks have been near the top of the league, and the Sabres...not so much.

no kidding.... a re-post of the same old no news on doan... who really cares. what was the purpose of this 40-50 word post by ek?
if it wasnt for him playing in phoenix, we would have likely not even heard his name all summer. imagine had he played for the sharks or wild or that team in denver... there would be 10,000 less pages blogging down the internet right now.

agreed, Doan WILL play in Phoenix WHEN the 2012/13 season gets underway.. E5

I would think the choice to pick Vancouver would be a no brainer for Doan. A proud Canadian franchise, loaded with star power, fan support, big beautiful city, always in the postseason, still on the west coast.

If he chose Buffalo he would come to a team where he would be heavily leaned upon to be a leader, not as much star power around him, sky high fan expectations, on the east coast, near Canada.

This is like messier all over again for the canucks...the player really doesnt want to play there but they overpay to get guys to sign...$7 million for doan will just mess up the salary scales...inept management of gillis...
