for the money he's getting paid I'd say whatever you want me to say too.

I just don't like A. No Ash and B. the main character is a chick. I saw buffy the vampire slayer, it sucked bad and when I think Evil Dead I wanna see goofey ass male chauvinist moron fighting demonically possessed corpses. If I wanna see what they are making I'll sit through the twilight series.

ugh I hope they didn't bastardize one of my favorite late night drinking movies.

I just made my son and his buddy watch the first two with me. The first one bored them. You kinda have to watch that one in the dark alone or with a girl to get the effect. They loved the second one. Army of Darkness this Friday.

Army of Darkness could have been great but in good Sam Raimi fashion they got carried away with the silliness in the final battle. Thought if they kept it a lil grounded it could have been awesome. My kids love the book scene where he has to pick the real necronomican. I just love when he crawls out of the pit and lays the smackdown.

The one thing growing up with Star Wars (as well as recent cinema in general) taught me is that, though all the changes and re-releases and new movies and whatever Hollywood decides to throw at us, none of it can ruin the original films that you love so dearly.

I'm old enough to have seen all three in theatres. Not the first one in initial release but it was in midnight showings for years after just like I Spit on Your Grave and Rocky Horror.

There is the occasional remake that is better than the original....I prefer the Newer version of Cape Fear, even though Robert Mitchum was brilliant in the original.

But most remakes are a horrible waste of time. I still am mad at Sandler for (frank)ing up The Longest Yard

You're right that there are some good remakes. I don't have an issue with them, or even with remakes being made. I'm more upset at how most movies are remakes, reboots, prequels and sequels.

When I saw the Dark Knight Rises, I actually kept count during the trailers: Five trailers fell into one of those four categories, two were for original film ideas, and the remaining one trailer was for a Will Ferrell comedy.

That's the power of name brand recognition.

Id love to see original ideas, but even a lot of those are rehashes of old ground...

True. At the end of the day, no story is truly original. There is a certain type of 'originality' that's been lost in favor of safe investments, though. Or rather, has been forced far into the background by these big budget safe investments. There are definitely still some good movies coming out, though.

I roped them in this summer with movie night after open hockey. We started with the Underworld series then Resident Evil followed by the more gruesome Event Horizon and the creepy Woman in Black then the Evil Dead. I slowly moved them toward horror. I was aiming for an end of summer Exorcist. Not sure I have them there yet.

Star Wars was basically a remake of The Hidden Fortress set in space.

if you can get them to like the Exorcist I think you will have them hooked on horror. What about some 80s slasher classics? I always thought that is a good fun way to get people interested in horror.

I tried Halloween but my son wasn't into it. I can't go too crazy. my son just turned 15 and his friend is a couple months into 14. Not worried about my kid but I don't want to send his friend home screaming into the night.

I was raised watching the old horror movies in the afternoons. These kids aren't exposed to that stuff. If it's black and white they aren't interested. My son's watched giant monster movies since he was a little kid. I used Reptar from Rugrats to hook him on Godzilla. It was easy to turn that into Tremors but his mom caught me. To her credit he was only 6 so he only got to see the first one.

Nice!

My cable company just picked up NFL Network. I can cease the hateful letters to James Dolan. To think in a way my money goes to funding the Rangers in however small a way, makes me ill.
