haven't heard that. I'm just pretty sure there is no way Anaheim can afford to give them a Parise deal, and they'd be stupid to sign any contract that wasn't like that before the new CBA comes in.
honestly not a bad idea to wait, cause they don't know what will happen and how those deals might get restructured.
No matter what, those 2 will make a ton of money next summer, so why handcuff themselves? they can wait and find the best way to maximize money under the new CBA... - Big_Lightnin
I was being tongue n cheek about the 'rumours'.
The way I see it is players/agents have to atleast fear that the length of term might shorten and/or that bonus payments will be limited in the new CBA. So, for guys like Getzlaf and Perry they 'should' want to get their extensions done before the lockout goes into effect. So if they've gone to ownership trying to do that and ownership has said no then they might hold some resentment towards ownership if the new CBA does in fact limit the term and $$ they can get.
If I'm a superstar and my window for getting a 13 yr, 100 milly deal closes Sept. 15th I'm pushing ownership hard to get it done and if it doesn't ...and I lose money long term ...that may impact my decision on where I sign next summer.

That's not necessarily true because if the PA get their way, the days of making big money are just getting starting, not ending so while some players may be trying to get contracts done right now, others may see it differently.

2 max money 5 yr contracts could easily be more money overall then 1 13 yr $100M deal.
the long deals offer security and guaranteed money, but not necessarily more money overall.

Sure ...none of us know where it's going to end but if I'm an agent/player I think I like the current CBA better than what I expect the next one to look like.
The one drawback that might make some guys wait is the threat of a rollback.

Yes, but I think most players will tell you they'd take the security and money over the money and "chance" of getting a more. Especially in a sport like hockey.

You're looking at it from the point of view where the NHL gets everything they want while some players who have faith in the NHLPA are waiting because they believe they will be better off with the new CBA.

It was on the top 10 here for awhile. Btw the actual rapper is seriously nuts. Speaking Russian that quick would give most a phlegm assault. - AdamFrench
Yeah he was actually pretty damn good, even though I couldn't understand what he was saying.

Franson is not satisfied with term being offered by #Leafs (max 2 years) and has demanded a trade. Toronto wants a d-man in return.

No, I think I'm looking at it from the middle ground ....the NHLPA starting salvo was weaker (for them) then the current CBA and it didn't even respond to the issue of length of term. They're going to give something, maybe lots, away (that they currently have), it's simply a matter of how much.
Currently there is very little restriction on length, bonus structure, etc... they can't gain ground from where they currently are on that issue ....but they can lose ground ....therefore, it's "likely" a better option to sign a contract under the current CBA.

If this is even half true, WTF is Burke doing with Franson?

The NHLPA aren't in a position of weakness. They aren't about to give a lot away.

1 season lost is a drop in the bucket for the owners.
Even a conservative estimate is that the players lose 10% of their hockey career on average, if they are locked out a year. They will never recover that.
The owners have all the power here. This is going to be a slaughter, just like last time. slaughter in terms of the players getting a cap rammed down their throats... not that that worked out badly for them then, but it is about to now
