Well this was Oshie signing his new deal earlier this summer, it was only fair.

We need to trade for Oshie ASAP.

Since Voracek & Simms signed LTC, we can trade one of them for Oshie.

Either way, I'd wait and see what condition he's in at the end of the season.
- BulliesPhan87

I wouldn't. I'd lock him up for another 2 years as it will probably take us that long to acquire a replacement. And I don't want him even thinking about taking off til then. If he gets hurt, well if I had pockets as deep as Philly, I'd be more frightened we did not have a key defensemen (even an older one) than that we'd have another LTIR. As Bill pointed out the likelyhood of acquiring a suitable replacement is going to be low.

If he has a similar season (provided there is a season this year) then hits free agency I think we can be assured his cap-hit would have been much higher had the Flyers looked to resign. Matt Carle should have taught us this.
- JoeRussomanno

Homer's always careful about locking up his most valued assets early and decisively... as much lip service as he paid to getting Carle re-signed, it was pretty clear that he was more interested in locking up guys like Coburn and Grossmann, and chasing other options like Suter. I don't get the feeling that Homer ever thought of Carle as a core player.

I don;t think he thought of him as a core player but I'd be willing to believe that Homer knows Carle's absence will leave a void that with Mez being hurt will be hard to fill.

I don't see any reason to do a multi year deal. I don't see a threat of Timonen signing anywhere else. The Flyers can't afford another high priced Cap hit player on permanent LTIR. It would absolutely kill their ability to make moves in the off season. If Timonen wants to continue playing. I do it one year at a time.

I disagree with that. I think the Flyers truly thought that they were going to get Weber. That is why they passed on Carle. They took a gamble that didn't pay off. I think Holmgren miscalculated on what he could sign Carle for.

Good deal all around on this one. ESP if there is no Ntc or a limited one. Hartnell is the type of player that is never readily available on the market. Plent of teams starve for what he brings. Good job flyers!
