Good deal all around on this one. ESP if there is no Ntc or a limited one. Hartnell is the type of player that is never readily available on the market. Plent of teams starve for what he brings. Good job flyers!

I disagree with that. I think the Flyers truly thought that they were going to get Weber. That is why they passed on Carle. They took a gamble that didn't pay off. I think Holmgren miscalculated on what he could sign Carle for.
- MJL

Honestly, I think Homer was going to go after Weber no matter what happened on July 1 as a replacement for Pronger. It was really going after Suter that caused Carle to Bolt, and Carle wasn't too keen on waiting around while they were offering his job to another guy.

If Holmgren had re-signed Carle, they would not have been able to go after Weber. They wouldn't have had the Cap space to make the deal. Carle gave the Flyers a chance to match the deal the Lightning gave him. But the Flyers were "all in" on Weber.

Hopefully Not an nmc. The term is a longer than anyone would like, but the cap hit makes up for it for sure.

I still can't believe Hartsy signed for less than 5 mill a year cap-hit and have thus far postponed the remainder of daily to do list so I can sit on the couch and blab on the computer about it.

I don't have a problem with the 6 year term.

Not that I don't believe you but I never saw that Carle went back to the Flyers with the TB contract.

I certainly don't know that for a fact. But it was reported. How accurate that was, I don't know. It escapes me where I read it.

So who are the 3 leading candidates for the "C" ? Hartnell, Kimmo, Giroux?

Homer, whatever you do, dont re-sign Shelley or Lilja...

Kimmo is the only notable player remaining with 1yr left on his contract. Would be nice to get him locked up for 2 more years.

I don't see any reason to do a multi year deal. I don't see a threat of Timonen signing anywhere else. The Flyers can't afford another high priced Cap hit player on permanent LTIR. It would absolutely kill their ability to make moves in the off season. If Timonen wants to continue playing. I do it one year at a time.
- MJL

I see the best reason to do get any kind of a discount or reasonable cap hit from Kimmo would be to sign him before the end of the year. Like with Hartnell. Trading a little security for a reasonable cap number. We want Kimmo playing, so do a lot of other teams. Right now Detroit would give him a single year deal worth his current cap hit easy.

I dont see Briere being more of a leader than those 3 guys. Just MO.

I personally would choose Kimmo. When he retires, you give it to G.

Timonen is 37 going on 38. Not 30 like Hartnell is. Timonen doesn't need security. And I don't have a worry about him signing with someone else. I think if he plays past this year, it's with the Flyers.

Briere was captain of a team that went to the ECF. He's a huge part of the leadership group in the room.

Hey, just MO.

Ok fine, ill take G out and insert Briere. Never said he wasnt captain material, never said he wasnt a leader, I just think Kimmo, Hartnell are a bit more of leaders. Im always wrong so this is a good thing...
