They will be getting it for the Leafs regardless, FC, the Raptors and the Jays, not so much. That is a lot of teams and a lot of huge ass contracts it will take to make them all contenders to up the interest and viewership. - shinebox
And a lot of revenue that could be made with them competing, winning, filling buildings, selling merchandise, the revenue from TV advertising, Leafs TV, Raps TV etc etc etc.
They arent crying poor, or they never would have bought the whole shabang. They did so knowing it would pay off. Its not raining, you're just pissing. Im not fooled! |

They still have seen very little of that 1.6 billion they just spent purchasing the leafs. - shinebox
No poop, they've only owned them for half a season. That doesn't mean they shouldn't spend to bring in more talent. No self respecting corporation/group/business-people buy a billion dollar organization if they didn't have the means to maintain it. |

It had to do with the length of the contract not the yearly salary. I remember them not wanting to pay Delgado either. They missed out on Fielder because of their own internal silly contract rules. - shinebox
Exactly my point. Im pretty sure that if the salary wasnt an issue then the extra years wouldnt be either. They go together, one is not exclusive from the other.
They missed out on Fielder because they dropped the ball and thought they could do better without him. The didnt want to pay that much for that long blah blah blah.
Its all about money, always has been and always will be. Plain and simple, the Jays didnt want to pay the cost it would have taken to make it happen. |

Yea, I fail to see why he doesnt get this painfully obvious reality.
I bet they dont buy any new computers or telephones for the employees working in the offices for at least 10 years. If someones PC/MAC breaks, that guy gets fired. |

as long as the leafs are bringing the cash, then I doubt they really care about the jays and raptors. They were just part of the deal, MLSE had no choice in taking them. It's like having a smoking hot girlfriend but having to deal with her hillbilly albertan parents. |

Meh. Theyre both not good enough and doing enough IMO. Burke at least has a cup. Both are running teams without success. How they win is not my concern. My concern is the lack there of. - Gunslinger
Well if there is a season and the Leafs do not show significant progress in the standings then Burke has to take the fall.
5 years is enough time, especially for a guy who said he was not interested in a 5 year rebuild.
Bluster can only take you so far, it's now about results. In my opinion he will be gone simply because he has miscalculated, again, on his goaltending. From Toskala to the Monster to Reimer he has overestimated their ability and it will cost him his job in the end. |

I dont think they expected to make 1.6 billion in their first year. They can make that money back in 10 years with profits on top. Are you just bored today and poop tickling without actually having a point? - Gunslinger
No i am making my points, you just wish to disagree. |

I agree. Hopefully the other Toronto GMs are on short leashes too. I care about results, not excusing a guy for failing just because he has "a plan".
I want wins, not some promise that tomorrow might be better if we just wish hard enough.
I have no emotional attachment to any Toronto GM. They all suck right now, IMO. |

They bought the whole shabang because they had to buy it like that, and if you don't think 1.6 billion didn't make a dent in their company then you are fooling yourself. |

If they felt they might not be making their money back they never would have bought it. I do think it made a dent, but a dent is all it made. The car is still driveable is still making billions a year.
If they couldnt afford to maintain it, they shouldnt have bought it. They can easily afford it. |

The only interesting thing JFJ ever said as the GM in Toronto was:
'You are what your record says you are"
Using that as a premise all the GMs suck. |

Well consider that Kessel would probably have the highest salary (not total comp) in either company then that is very true.

They bought it, and now they will be expecting a huge return on it, and will be getting a good portion of it before they dump even more money into it and making these teams contenders. |
