My guess is improves on every level. Last year was a fluke of bad luck, inconsistency and underwhelming performance. He's a great 5-6 defenseman at the absolute worst of times so I can't imagine that he'll reproduce a stinker.

The only downside is the length of contract. I don't care what you say anything longer than 6 (maybe 7) years is ridiculous. Have they thought about how much can happen in one year, never mind 10? Crazy, that's a partial reason for this stupid CBA battle.

Erhoff a 5-6 defensman? Are you sure you watch hockey?

He had 32 points in 66 games. He was pretty beat up last year plus with the injuries to the rest of the team he was not able to mesh as well as if they were healthy. In no way is this a bad contract. That belongs to Ville Leino, who we are more worried about than Erhoff.

Yes Dwight Yes. But can we chalk up all of last season as an anomaly for everyone? It was a poop season full of poop siutaions.

Now if its december 10th and were having the same problems with Leino and others, then we got problems.

Ehrhoff is a steal at his salary, and was our best d man when healthy last year. The Sabres have to improve on the PP if we expect him to score 14 goals.

"at the worst of times".

He's a 2-3 defenseman, don't get your underpants all knotted.

I know that as per Erhoff, but the role of Leino has me concerned. With all the wingers we have I am curious as to where he will fit in.

My fear is that we will "fit" him in and bump out another deserving player down to Rochester.

I blame last year on Roy. The Sabres success lies in the hands of the unknowns. Leino and Hodgson and the "Foligno/Ennis/Stafford line"

I can't blame Roy for everything. I just want some of the kids to start taking over this team.

Plus I think the addition of Ott and his energy will be contagious through the locker room.

Ehrhoff was the product of the sedin twins in Vancouver, he got most of his goals off their passes on the PP and lets be honest Buffalo doesn't have anyone in the same league as those guys! Besides his 2 years playing with the sedins his point total was always around the mid 30's and he had around 5-10 goals. He's not terrible defensively but not a stud, at 4 million it isn't the worst contract but an over payment based on a career year.

My guess, Sabres start off average/slow. Hang around 9th/10th early on while this team figures out its lines and roles. They will be even more off the radar than they are now. Then they turn it on and kick some ass!

So why were the Vancouver bloggers and fans saying they missed his presence down the stretch?

edit: not to discount your theory because anyones points will be up playing with the Sedin twins.

I guess that explains the 42 points he had with the Sharks.
EDIT: Also notice the Sedins had less points without Erhoff. Perhaps they are a product of him.

Garrison is getting 4.6 per year for 1 season of good production. I would think that they would have been better off with Ehrhoff. At least he had a body of work to go off of.

That deal alone makes Ehrhoff's deal look even better.

That is always a good debate: who help whom. The only example I believe that 1 player was the reason for anothers productivity was Stafford and Drury. Drew tanked after he left. Set his career back 3 years.
