Your forgetting about the bad one your trying to get rid of with a limited trading field.

It's an interesting concept, the buyout would make what 3? if the cap goes down that could put us in a bit of trouble quickly, as wolftos said 3 buyouts would be 3.2 a year for 2 years than 1.4 for 2 more which wouldn't be bad, just all 3 for 2 years

waive him then. but I still say he retires. Won't want to be a back up, won't ride the bus, and won't need the money.

ya initially I was just thinking about he actually buyout amount which is either $560K or $400K depending on year. That Cap formula is (frank)ing retarded, but I guess that's the penalty on these deals.
- Big_Lightnin

yep, easier to bury... impossible to buyout.

both starters fighting for the backup job - it's a tough go

seriously though, we don't have one. And I'm honestly fine if we go with Scrivens and Reimer.

Leafs are still building. Luongo helps of course, might even get them in the playoffs next year, but still a ways to go. Not worth overpaying, or even paying reasonable market for what the Leafs get long term.

Leafs can't afford to give up anything substantial for him.

Luongo does not help the leafs acquire the #1 Center they need... this is our opportunity to get that draft pick we need to get one.

Pass

- senstroll

No guarantee we get that pick man, odds are we don't get a top 5 this year let's make a couple (frank)ing deals and play some hockey.

With the new CBA this may not be possible without it hitting the cap. If players are giving up $'s they are going to want some rights back.

Honestly I don't see that one coming from players. I see that coming from poor team owners who see it as an advantage.

Players perspective if a guy making big $$ is in the minors, then another guy is making NHL money taking his place = more money for players all around. Not a bad thing for them.

they were talking if there is a season. Leafs aren't likely a lottery team. They just barely caught lottery last year with one of the worst stretches in history... unlikely to happen again.

Lu has a 89 rating in NHL 13. That should count for something. He is ranked in the top 7.

Players love that u can send money to the minors. Better chance teams overpay because they have an out.

no he doesn't. Just a weird NTC. Still no way in hell Luongo is in the minors, but they could technically do it.
- Big_Lightnin

If he has a ntc then a throw to the minors can't happen either can it because they are effectively trading him for nothing as a loophole.

What's the point in ntc without a nmc with it?

I'm no lawyer Ian, But I think this scenario is illegal under the current CBA. No way the NHL would allow this type of tampering ( and it is tampering, or Cap circumvention or what ever they may deem it) and I doubt the NHLPA would approve either.

Komi is under contract with Toronto and he and his agent are not allowed to have discussions like this with another team. Period.

How do Canucks fans go from "he's worth a ton, he's a number 1 goalie" to "we'll just loan him to sweden or bury him in the ahl"

he's either worth something or he's not. If you're looking at burying him in the AHL clearly you're thinking he's not worth his contract and by that thinking, with a limited number of teams who would even consider taking on that contract there's even less value to him. It's like saying that Wade Redden was worth something in a trade, until the Rangers realized that his contract was garbage and had to bury him in the ahl because no one wanted him.

In order to move Luongo out, you will not get the value for him you're looking for, which means taking back a bad contract or less value in trade. Reality strikes Canucks fans, but it hasn't hit Gillis yet.

I don't understand how this helps the leafs in any way to make the Lu trade possible, they basically buy out Komisarek so that Vancouver can sign him at a better price. The trade has nothing to do with the buyout and toronto gives up prospects and picks for Lu which they clearly aren't willing to give up since the trade hasn't been made.

Ian I question your logic on this trade, if Toronto was unhappy with Komisarek's contract they could just buy him out and not trade for Lu. They clearly don't want to do that because they didn't when they had the chance. If anything a more logical outside the box remedy would mean Vancouver would pay for parts of Lu's contract. Either way the summer is coming to an end and Lu still hasn't been traded because every GM in the league realizes how bad the contract is and is not willing to part with assets to take it on. Wake up Van fans he just isn't that good.

I highly doubt players like Redden, Finger, etc believe that. Their contracts were stupid but they are still NHL players. I know the NHLPA was pissed about this happening.

nothing but dreaming going on ... Leafs pay Komi 1.7 million not to play and take on 7oungo's 5.33? Wow ... creative is really a stretch there ... Burke would be run outta town the day that would happen... Leafs are not giving up a 1st rounder .. at least not their own first rounder. Forget about it would ya
