Hockeyy Insiderr had a rumour yesterday Gretzky was in hospital for heart problem . It was a hoax . Paulina Greztky laid into him. Good for her.She basically called him a useless piece of crap.
Does anyone else think she would make a good head of the NHL. At least if she had bad news ,no one would mind listening. - VANTEL
Paulina Greztky or Gary Bettman. Yeah that took me all of 2 seconds to pick Paulina. |

Seeing Ian is on vacation I will pose this question. If Canucks were to start this season right now as is how would you value the team.

I disagree with the D being weak. Better than last year definitely and would be solid as is right now. |

Goal - One of the best tandems in the league.
Offensive - Good not fantastic...missing 2nd line centre til x mas, hopefully someone steps up (or Gillis surprises)
Defense - Good to mediocre...depends on the mindset...too many brain fart moments with this group. I honestly don't know much about Garrison.
Is Maholtra centering the 4th line? Or will he take a spot on the bench for defensive face offs?
Yea...I know glass half full type of guy. |

I think d is a wildcard. I expect 2 out of Tanev, Sauve and Cannautton on this team. |

Toughness - VANTEL
Goaltending: A to A+ (as a tandem)
Defence: A- to A (offensively) C+, maybe B- (defensively)
Scoring: B+ to A- (Mostly because our D is tops at scoring in the league and our PP is usually extremely good even without Kesler playing on the first unit)
Forwards: (top line stacks up with any in the league, 2nd line is average/below average without Kesler and 3-4th lines are average offensively)
Toughness: D to C- (not a lot of toughness save for maybe a couple of players who don't scare other teams as real fighters/scrappers. We have too many agitator-like players on the team with Burrows, Kesler, Lapierre, etc.) |

Only Tanev will make it full time. Sauve isn't ready for full time duty, but could probably handle 10-20 as a callup without looking over his head too often.
Connauton is still a very long way away from being a full time NHLer, if ever. |

I feel the opposite, I think connaughton will have a few call ups this year but I think Sauves puck decisions are too piss poor to land him much more than up to 5ish games in the bigs... |

Really? Did you catch a lot of Wolves games this season? Because Connauton's decision making is absolutely god awful, except maybe when he decides to shoot.
Can't count how many times he was so desperate to get rid of the puck, that he made a horrible pass that resulted in a giveaway.
Many who haven't seen him play seem to think that Conautton is a great passer and can QB a powerplay, but he is not a good passer, in his own zone or in the offensive. All he really has is his shot, and the fact that he plays physical.
Sauve is usually very sound in his own end, and doesn't panic nearly as quickly as Connaughton. It's not even comparable. |

Yeah, I can never get his name right—think I spelled it two or three different ways in my posts—to be fair, I'm drunk, and not too worried about my spelling.
I watched quite a few Wolves games this past season, and the highlights for those that I missed, and while I'll say he improved on the defensive side by simplifying his game, his decision making is bad, and so is his passing.
If he ever makes it as a full-time NHLer, he'll have to top-out his offensive potential, and will still be a pp specialist, while getting minimal 5 on 5.
Of course the Province is going to write a feel-good story to pump the tires of the Canucks prospects, and I wouldn't be too surprised if he gets a call-up this season and some PP time, but he's at least two years away from a full time NHL role, and may never get one.
To say Connauton would beat out Sauve because of his superior decision making is ludicrous. Sauve is the most NHL ready of the D prospects. |

This is the last hurrah for this guy right? I mean, this will be Gary's 3rd or 4th lockout/work stoppage isn't it? At some point someone has to say 'enough is enough'. - bloatedmosquito

I understand the twisted logic, but it's pretty shameful for a hockey fan to not want to see hockey played.
It's up there with the Southern markets reportedly not wanting to compete with football. If you can't at least break even with your team and you think locking out the fans you actually do have makes more business sense, you should not have a team. - micah555
I don't think you'll see many that ACTUALLY want there to bo no hockey for the draft reason. It's just one of those "Look on the bright side" kind of things that people are coming to terms with. |
