If they did the same three ball system as last time, it would look like this from what I can tell:
1 ball - Edmonton, Washington, San Jose, Chicago, Phoenix, Vancouver, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Nashville, Boston, Philadelphia, Montreal
2 balls - NYI, NYR, Colorado, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, Buffalo, New Jersey, St Louis, Anaheim
3 balls - Calgary, Dallas, Winnipeg, Carolina, Minnesota, Toronto, Columbus

You forgot florida just FYI.

Oops. Well they're supposed to be in one ball I think.

Hamhuis, Bieksa and Garrison will be on the team before Phaneuf.

If Canada fielded three teams, I think it's still a toss up whether or not Phaneuf makes the third team.

I think because of where they drafted this year.

How many yrs do you go back? What leaves the islanders out and not the leafs. If you say drafting in top 3 then leafs picked top 2 in 2010. Islanders picked 1st in 2009. Just curious what the system is.

Ya I know but I can't see any other reason for them to have one I would think islanders would also have one ball. I don't even have any idea where the leafs would pick lol they should get two at the most.

I slapped that together given what burn said the stipulations were last time. It's evident I've screwed it up though (FLA missing, Montreal duplicated).

the three factors he said were:

1) Take a ball out for every playoff berth in the last three years
2) Take a ball out for every first overall pick in the last four years.
3) Each team can have a maximum three balls and a minimum one ball.

Let me see if I can do this better...

EDIT:
Here is the reference to the tiered system: http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26401. It says essentially what I said. If they re-use such criteria,

I wouldn't want that arrogant goof anywhere near my team. The guy has to be one of the biggest azzholes in hockey. The funniest thing is that he's the captain of one of the most pathetic sport franchises in recent history.

Perfect fit.

Easy bud.

I can see why a 1st placed team is so concerned with a bottom 5 team...totally makes sense.

Can't believe that this hasn't been brought up yet. Today is the 1 year anniversary of Rypien's death.

Interesting stuff Morris. Thanks.

Although philosophically I can't see another full year stoppage, I suppose it can't be ruled out either.

This today from Michael Grange:

Bettman: 'the sides are far apart and have different views of the world'

Bettman: 'it takes 2 sides to make a deal, 2 sides to negotiate and 2 sides to make it go bad'

Most forthcoming Bettman has been - players proposal didn't respond to theirs & didn't acknowledge industry trends (paraphrase). Bettman also said he's disappointed that the NHLPA hasn't responded to contractual issues.

Idea for a blog - which European teams will your stars play for?

Sorry Juice.

I'm just pissed off that a cool, smart, good looking dude like Bloated got banned when Leaf trolls are all over this blog's thread. I was just taking my shot and (hopefully) didn't cross the line.

Only way we do that deal is if we immediately announce right after that Doan has signed for 4 years in Vancouver, otherwise it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
