Ian I am sure Gillis is not in his office thinking what bad contract he could take back would hurt the least.
If things ever did become desperate Gillis could trade for a 7 th rounder to CBJ or Fla . We are no where near that. You also forget if Gillis wanted to clear salary he has a very good friend and former client who is GM of Modo in Sweden that would love to have the loan of a number 1 goalie.
I realize dog days of summer but you deserve a kick in the nuts for suggesting Komi at 3 mil for 4 years. |

Komisarek won't get traded or bought out.
He's the only big defender the team has and he fights. With Burke and Carlyle looking to toughen up; getting rid of Komisarek does the exact opposite of that.
He was possibly the best defenseman on the team when Carlyle took over. Clearly I have no crystal ball but he's finishing his contract out with the Leafs for sure. - Juice

or how about we just scratch this deal all together. bozak is a great player signed to a fair deal. ashton has some promos and is a decent prospect. gunner is a fine d-man who loves TO and is paid fairly. luongo is a geezer who is horribly overpaid and who is being moved specifically because management (and the city of vancouver) has lost faith in his ability to be a winning goalie.
as a leafs fan i'm perfectly fine going forward without luongo especially if it means not being bullied into a silly deal where youthful potential is being traded for old, mediocrity. no thanks. - wielerj

Ian Esplen: Getting Creative with Lu and T.O.
Getting Creative with Lu and T.O. - IanEsplen
well, tampering aside (and ya - massive tampering) Why the hell would Vancouver sign Komisarek once he's UFA?
Who says he would WANT to sign there given the chance?
I no longer think Burke is trying to move Komi. take a look at the Leafs D. only 6 NHL defensemen, with Franson, and Komi is the ONLY shutdown guy. Period. Nobody for the PK at all.
Leafs can't afford to trade Komi ( ) unless they have a line on another shutdown guy (or 2).
Connolly, Bozak, D'Amigo and a 2nd.
2 options for 3rd line center there for ya, and Connolly only has 1 year left. |

Honestly your offer is a joke. If that's the best Vancouver can do, they should put him on waivers and let clb ghave him. That way they have cap space now. At least put thought into your trolling please - Bieksa#3
If Luongo didn't have 10 years left on his deal, I'd be inclined to agree with you. Unfortunately for Gillis, he signed Luongo to a horrible deal that's going to severely limit the return.
Think about it, Gillis wanted Luongo traded well before the draft, well before he resigned Schneider, and he doesn't want to have to carry over 9 mil in cap space in net, but there's no offers for Luongo that will get back the value you're looking for. Two reasons - terrible contract and limited number of teams he'll agree to go to. The teams he wants to be traded to have no need for him. Florida had better numbers out of a 1.5 mil goalie in Theodore and have a kid coming they'll need to make room for, and Tampa traded for Lindback.
Luongo won't move for a while because Gillis won't back down from his demands, and at the end when he eventually does move Luongo it'll make it look like Columbus got a good deal for Nash.

Luongo does not help the leafs acquire the #1 Center they need... this is our opportunity to get that draft pick we need to get one.

LOL, you think Luongo is going to go explain to his wife that he waived his no movement clause to go to Sweden on a loan for the year? His wife doesn't even want him in Vancouver, let alone halfway across the world.

Why would gllis take komi at all(unless its for under a mill) the rest of the deal makes sense. I think leafs keep komi. Its not like they need the cap space. I have been saying Lu for Bozak, Ashton and gunner or Franson for 2 months. Tor gets an all star elite net minder and Vancouver plugs some holes. Sub the conditional pick for Gunner or Franson and it still works - Bieksa#3
Leafs can't afford to trade a Dman anymore. Schenn and Aulie both gone - back end is thin on NHL talent.
#7 right now is Holzer, who has barely sniffed the NHL yet. He becomes a roster lock if they trade anyone. |

let em ask you something, did you think the asking price of howson for Nash was ridiculous? If so, guess what, Luongo is the same situation, only with a worse contract.

Actually the prospects D is very solid now. Blacker, Finn, Reilly, Percy, Holzer. Just none are NHL ready. Holzer and Blacker are closest, but neither should be a roster lock.

Its a No Trade clause not a no movement clause. Vancouver can waive him if they choose to. I think. |

no he doesn't. Just a weird NTC. Still no way in hell Luongo is in the minors, but they could technically do it.

Lu has a 89 rating in NHL 13. That should count for something. He is ranked in the top 7. |
