Grigorenko comparison is Thornton? Hmmm I see him more like a getzlaf. I just see him shooting more than having "dat vision" like big Joe.
- bsabres716

Getzlaf has physicality in his game and doesn't really shoot either. The Joe comp was based on puck possession style.

At least you don't compare players based on nationality alone. Anyone else would've compared Grigorenko to Datsyuk just because they're both Russian. I've never understood the thought process that 2 players must play the same way if they're from the same country. I've seen guys that are nothing alike compared for that reason.

Ya never understood that either. Comparing Kopitar would be brutal. He's like....erg...google Slovenian hockey player.

Will you be able to tell him why he's not in your top 5?

He's nowhere near as physical as Getzlaf.

Yeah, I prefer the Spezza comparison. It not only alludes towards elite playmaking and the ability to absolutely take control of a game, but it also leaves room for somewhat streaky play and injury history!

After watching some video from the CAN vs RUS games, Grigorenko didnt look too impressive. He didnt play bad, just not as well as I thought he would. On the other hand Yakupov looked great, he had got some great speed and finish to him for what I saw.

He isn't Russian
- AdamFrench

He may be an American citizen, but he is Russian.

via Wiki
Galchenyuk was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to former Soviet and Belarussian hockey player Alexander Galchenyuk, and a Russian mother.

He has declared himself as American though.

Similar to how Adam Deadmarsh, and Brett Hull were born in the Canada but declared themselves as American.

I think most people would put Kuznetsov higher than 5 considering he was by far the best player at the 2012 world junior hockey championships. Kuznetsov Averaged almost a point a game in the KHL last season as a 19 year old and was said by many to be the best player not playing in the NHL.

Soooo, despite being born in the USA to a legal immigrant, and living in Germany, Italy, Russia, and Canada all for significant periods of time, the time he spent in russia is all that matters, apparently.

Stop talking out of your ass.

This was my first thought, but reports are he's plagued by the same qualities that make Semin less effective than he should be based on talent alone, so I'm assuming that's why French ranked him lower.
