I still believe there is a trade to be done between the Yotes and Flyers if Jamison can finally gain control of the team. The Yotes have a tremendous amount of young defensive depth in the organziation, and obviously the Flyers are loaded at forward. Yandle is the obvious target, but Gormley and Rundblad aren't even on the big club yet. I'm not even going to mention Ekman-Larsson, just no way he is available. Of course, he is a RFA next year, and we'll see where the next CBA goes. A topic for another day.

actually some good points by you, except for Kimo being the best dmen for us this year, I didn't think so but maybe that's just a matter of Opinion. You do make it seem like you're saying Coburn sucks.
- JoeRussomanno

i think coburn is a good player for what he brings but i wouldn't list him as an NHL experienced vet yet

The situations where his minutes were elevated in the last 7 games or so, were in blowouts such as 7-1 win over Toronto. And also in games late in the Season where the Flyers were limiting minutes to players such as Timonen and Grossmann due to being banged up, to help them get ready for the playoffs.

I like Bourdon. I favor him over Gustafsson and what little we've seen in Manning. I like BOurdon's agressiveness,a nd his physical edge. I have doubts that he'll be a top 4 level player in the future. It certainly is possible, but not likely in my opinion. But I have no doubt that he can be a solid 3rd pair player.

- MJL

Yeah most of us are saying similiar things. We all feel like he's going to be at least a good call up, probably a good third liner and possibly, maybe, a second pairing guy IF he continues to improve. Understand nobody making a guarantee of top 4 status. However I am pointing out that we won't know if his progression was ended because of his injury or because he hit a wall in his development until he can get playing again and see where he's at.

Then I have to ask, what are your criteria for being known as an NHL experienced vet?

Yeah but some people are just not leaders. Coburn may never become what you deem a veteran but that doesn't mean he is not experienced. Experience is essentially what creates a vet.

I gotta Concur. I think Coby Solidified his Veteran status during our cup run and has been using his size and footspeed to be one of the better and more underated defenders in the leauge for a couple years now. He does not have the offensive prowess of most elite Defensemen but he's got everything else and I think he could pull down 35- 40 points setting up someone like Giroux.

Maybe it's not overt enough a show of leadership for your criteria (not an insult, to be certain), but the way Coburn shoulders the hard minutes in the playoffs are my idea of leadership. Sure, he's not a vet in the same way an older player like Doan is, but I'd still call Coburn a vet in his own right.

Hopefully we'll see that this year.

edit : I think a Coburn/Bourdon pairing could work out really well. Coby has the speed and veteran presence and Bourdon worked well with Carle last year. Bourdon could help supply a little more offensive firepower as well. Both are physical.

Future HOF-er? Are experienced vets and future/current HOF-ers synonymous in your book?

In all fairness, none of know what is taught in practice and by whom unless a journalist makes the observation or is told by someone on the team. I would be willing to bet that if Coburn sees a younger player make a mistake or sees something the player can work on, he'll pull him aside. I think what you are trying to say is he's not a mentor, that's ok he hasn't done anything that we know of to say otherwise, but a leader or vet, he fits that bill.
