You have not posted one objective comment on the Flames so whatever you write is just the ramblings of an Oilers Kool Aid drinker.

Oiler's fans shat all over Jokinen for 3 years, "he is brutal, bad in the room, doesn't care" (none of which was true) and now that he is gone, the upgrades don't compare???

You don't think that.....

Jiri Hudler, Roman Cervenka and Dennis Wideman are upgrades over Ollie, Moss and Hannan?????

Hudler and Ollie might be close but Moss never played as he was always hurt and scored 20 once

If you really believe Wideman is not an upgrade over Hannan you should drop the bottle you're drinking and go to a meeting.

- scoot174

Talk about drinking the Koolaid!

Hannan was solid for the Flames last year. Wideman in, probably means Jbo out. Definite downgrade. Olli was your only real Center. Not saying he is great, but you have nothing else. Now you are relying on 2 guys that have never played in the NHL to be your top 2 Centers? We'll see how that works out. At least Joker was a proven commodity. Flames fans are the BIGGEST bandwagon fans in the league. I know. I live in Calgary and go to alot of games. All off season its; man they are making great trades, this one will put us over the top...But when it starts going South...they give up easily or start with the whining and complaining.

At least Oil fans are LOYAL and stand behind the plan and are willing to give the team time to grow.

Also I don't see how they would be SE division elite in either conference they wouldn't have made the playoffs!

And if your trying to say well if they played against the SE all the time they would have. Did you forget who else is in your division second to last oliers, 24th place wild and 20th place avalanche. So not much better the difference is the SE at least saw two playoff berths.

- Crazycaboose

Yeah, it's pretty suppositional. Still, pointing out that there was only 1 playoff team from the NW when there was only 2 from the SE and they both were within a very close range of Calgary's total is hardly an argument for the Panthers sturdy playoff positioning.

WTF are you talking about????? When did anyone ever say we have made great trades or signings that have put us over the top??? We may say we got the better of the Cammi/Bourque deal, we like the Jones deal, Regehr was a meh but Butler actually had better numbers & played 20+ minutes, we think he outperformed Regehr & we gained 4.0 mill in cap space with it, has to count for something. Many of us feel that Hudler, Wideman are upgrades & Cerevenka has come with some high reviews just like Schultz. Maybe do some homework, Jokinen had the worst face off percentages last year of all our centres. He won like 42 friggin %. Yeah, Im OK with him leaving. & as for Oiler fans, you guys are so used to losing in the regular season that you know you're going to win the draft race. How can you talk when you probably cant remember when you guys have had a meaningful game in March.

Please...I hear it all the time and have been for years. When they traded for Olli...Thats the missing peice! we are cup contenders now...Then aquiring Cammi from LA.. Same thing.. Now we are contenders.. Then Jbo coming in, then Tanguay and so on...

And the Flames have not played a meaningful game in just about as long as the Oil in the Spring so keep dreaming...

The biggest difference... and this is huge.

Florida = top 5 in prospect pool

Calgary = bottom 5 in prospect pool

So hence the "Calgary needs to rebuild" talk... Especially because there isn't jack that is exciting coming up the ranks and your GM just traded back in the first round and selected a player he could of had in the second round...

Calgary wont be legit until they go into full rebuild or at the very least tank a few seasons after Iginla and Kipper retire. That could be a few years away and your GM is only making it take longer than it needs to...

I would think people would have learned from what the Avs went through when they refused to rebuild for a couple years and were finally forced into it. Looks like the Redwings are about to go through the same thing as well.

kipper deal i actually don't mind.

I still wish jbo/backland for Statsny/Gaunce could be an option because it gets a true center whereas Flip is like Cammy and better on the LW

Jbo and Backlund for Filppula, Erricson, Emmerton and Sproul. FLip and ericsson are nice, but rather keep backland if he's what gets the other two, or get 2013 picks that can be used to trade up. Or if backlands included make it Flip/Smith

Iggy trade not sure about

The big hole in net that we would be left with would be a worry. I'm not a fan of leiland and think he'll peak as a back up

- numbear

Wings have only 6 defensemen on their roster and only 1 in the AHL that might be able to play in spot duty if injuries hit so if Holland trades a defenseman (let alone 2), he would be a dumbass. Wings can't afford to trade any defensemen even prospects. Also can't see them trading Filppula unless he is hell bent on testing the market next summer and even then...they knew Hudler was gone this summer and didn't trade him last season. Smith is not going anywhere anytime soon unless a star defenseman was coming back and JBo isn't it at all.

I hope JBo gets traded to the Flyers or Blues because from everything i read that Detroit would have to give, i don't want him at all and would rather they just sign two of the UFA's left and go with what they have.

Subbing out Blacker for Scrivens helps. Gives you an NHL goalie and makes it easier for TO to swallow, as they really like Blacker. Let Scrivens and Irving duke it out for #1.
- mochoson

I'd definitely would still rather have blacker then scrivens. And trade assets for bernier or lack from vancouver

Source... The Hockey News...

The Flames are your prototypical bubble team - too good to bottom out, not good enough to guarantee a playoff spot. The backbone of the team - Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff - are just getting older and without anyone else to lead the charge, Calgary seems to be moving further and further away from a No. 8 seed. Patchwork was done via the free agent market, but overpaying for marginal talent isn't what the doctor ordered for this team. Until they decide to rebuild, the flames will be headed in the wrong direction.

The same Hockey News that had Division winners Phoenix and Florida predicted to finish 14th in their respective conferences?

Yea, that is a dandy "source"

Arent you getting tired of all these fans of teams that have had a worse record than us the last 3 years, all keep saying we have to blow it right up, all are saying that we are going to be disappointed with the returns of JBO, Iggy & Kipper, but we need to blow up right away. Their logic doesnt make sense.

You don't agree with trading the aging players to make your team stronger in the long run?

Do you really think hanging on to them and finish in 10th spot or so... will help your team out.

Trading 3 players is not a crazy thing to do?

What do you suggest?

Where did I say that? Well if we listen to you clowns that we are getting diddly for returns, then yeah I would rather watch Iggy & Kipper playout their careers here. & if we cant get a decent return for JBO, may as well keep him too. If the returns are 1st's or prime top NHL ready kids & picks, I'd be all for it. I would easily give JBO & whatever we have to get a Schenn or Couturier.

I never said you would get nothing for those players... I think you would get a good return on them.

Probably best to wait until the trade deadline now.

NOT following the Islanders path to rebuilding (which looks eerily similar to Edmonton's)
