I'm not sure what the lockout has to do with that idea....

And like the leafs had to try and to get a good pick anyway.

- Scabeh

A lock out taints the season...shortened schedule = back to back to backs....and other B.S.

Berezin was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
- stormeyAlterEgo

i remember him scoring like the 10,000th goal in team history... or home ice goal. and i remember wondering why it was being celebrated. then i realized it's because we're so pathetic now that this is what we've been reduced to celebrating.

no doubt, and he has gone vs those guys, and thats why that line can score a lot of goals, but also gives up a ton.

i noticed some teams WOULD match vs leafs #1 line because they had confidence they could shut down but also rip them apart defense wise. which was very true, i cant remember how many goals our 1st line scored, but we had a lot against too.

- big_dion

precisely

lupul bozak kessel

combined on ice goals for: 279

combined on ice goals against: 220

thats a differential of 59 goals.. that doesnt scream good defense

Bohonos, the playoff GEM!

best part about him...playoffs end, some guy in a bar talks poop to him, he goes up, beats the poop out of the guy and gets charged with assault.

reminds me of grabovski 1 punching that guy and his wife in Vancouver LOL - cept gbov is a (frank)in gem, a gem you hear me??!?!!!!!!!!!!

especially when a good chunk of those goals are PP goals...well, at least some. and you know they were not out PK'ing as a line..ever.

160 career goals.. career plus 29 (16 of which came in his 37G campaign)

awesome

like i said.. one dimensional player

- Dozzer

we were talking about the leafs, not career....you compared him to Bozak...you just feel like arguing today, which is fine, but you have had absolutely no cohesion to any of your arguments.
Berezin was a one dimensional goal scorer, which he did effectively for the Leafs with 126 goals in 357 games.
McClement is also one dimensional, he kills penalties...he does absolutely nothing else effectively-not hitting, fighting,forechecking,..nothing. Yet, you have been singing his praises today.

I still stick to my theory Bozak would be a good third line centre, you need smarts and positioning and you will be successful in a checking role. IMO.

good point!

82 team PPGF

and

7 team PPGA

so when factoring that into the equation this means that as a line they were on the ice for even strength 189GF and 213GA

making them as a line minus 24 in regular strength situations

everybody has their opinion and a right to it

but i really think bozak would be over matched in that role

Lidstrom was one of the softest defensmen in the league but he was the best at positioning, it can overcome any size, if you take away space, you do your job.

not exactly singing

do i think he will be a better third line centre than bozak? yes

do i think he will fix all the leafs defensive issues? no

does that clarify my stance a little?

for sure he did. when you have home ice advantage you put your scoring line out vs the the opposition top lines to get away from the more defensive players.. try to take advantage of a draw in the opposition zone.

but in a pure defensive role.. where his job is to shut those guys down.. he would be out matched.. i mean really.. who is going to win a battle for the puck in the middle of the ice.. bozak or staal?

staal would win that battle 95% of the time

- Dozzer

I'm pretty sure Carlyle already stated that he'd be using Grabo's line as the shutdown line. Hoping that Grabo can hold them in the offensive zone. Wilson already had Grabo in the role against Malkin, Richards, etc.

Kessel's line will be the scoring line and will get a lot of minutes.
Grabo's line (shutdown) will get top minutes as they'll usually be paired against the other teams top line.

So Carlyle usually has two other lines, 2nd scoring and grinders.

This is why Kadri may stick with the team, as the third line will become the 2nd scoring line.

Bozak has already played against them. I remember seeing him take faceoffs against, Richards, Spezza, Thornton, Toews.

What do they do, let him take the faceoff then pull him?

LM...

you cant bring up one of the greatest players to play the game as an aside to defending bozak

i do understand your point.. and its validity.. but bozak's skill level isnt worth the droplets of sweat on lidstrom's skate laces lol
