Clearly this was not a replacement for Zach Parise, but simply our attempt to one-up the Rangers acquiring Nash.

it's a low risk signing for the devils. butler has the potential to be a scorer, but beyond that, he has little to offer. if he's not scoring goals, then he's about as useless as a player can be. he's not physical at all, his passing and vision are nothing to write home about, and his defensive game is weak. if you can get him going on a line, with a center that can set him up, then he could work out nicely.....that being said, he had pretty much zero chemistry with spezza or turris last year, so i can't imagine he'd be much better in new jersey. if he's not playing in the top six, he's useless. i have little to no doubt that he'll spend most of, if not all, next season in the AHL.

If butler ha two way contract, he'd be on our roster.

He can score in bunches if playing with a solid play making center. IF he focuses on his defensive games, he may create chances for himself to put up 15-18g but that is a stretch.

I see him getting hot at some point in the season-- maybe being a 2nd 3rd star one night... then fizzling out

Good luck to him though
