I just worked out a trade with the Calgary board for a jbo deal. Read, Gus, 2nd going the other way. Holmer should be thanking me for getting something done

meh. Let's just keep Read and Give Gus some NHL experience, see how he does. We never give our D enough time to develop. We threw the dice with the Kids last year, let's try it with our Defense a bit. We got 4 young Defensemen hovering around the breaking out stage. Gus, MAB, Manning & Gervais. Even Schenn is only 22 with room to improve.

Now that being said, I'd be fine giving up some picks for J-Bo if Calgary wanted, but I like our young players and I'm at the point where picks are all I would give up. I like our young players and they deserve to have a chance to prove they belong.

Gervais is not a young player looking to breakout. He's 27 and at this point, he is what he's going to be.

Waiver-eligible players on minor-league assignments are subject to reentry waivers if they are recalled and their minor-league salary is greater than $105,000 in 2009-10 and beyond.

I doubt that he would clear waivers also. But it does give the Flyers an option.

And I'll also add that that is under the current CBA. Who knows if that will change.

very true about the new CBA. I personally would like to see re-entry waivers go away. All that seems to do is prevent guys from making it back to the NHL. Seems sufficient to me to be subjected to waivers to go down. I'd think the NHLPA would agree. of course they have larger fish to fry in these negotiations.

Yes and no. Teams would more freely waive players because they could move them back and forth at will. Recall waivers gives some players opportunities elsewhere instead of being buried on a depth chart.

see I view it differently. if you send a guy down and he does happen to clear but the player is subjected to re-entry waivers, seems more likely the team won't want to call him back up risking him being claimed and being stuck with half the cap hit.

I think it depends on the player. For players like Redden, certainly. But those players are far outnumbered by players like Bourdon, and that type of contract situation.

you don't see an issue with 4+ ERA and 7+ era? LOL

point a: win a championship and you're free from criticism!
point b: yeah, but hamels had an era over 4 the next year!

In theory, it should work like MJL described, however we know in practice that re-entry presents a clear disincentive for cap-conscious teams to bring players back up at all.

I'm betting that the NHLPA supported re-entry on the basis that it might introduce some liquidity to the waiver process, but I think they underestimated how willing some teams were to eat real dollars to save cap space.

I thought if we take J Bo we get Calgary's 2nd pick too...that is the Flyers formula for cap dumps right.

How did you like seeing Jeff Carter raise the cup for LA?

If J-Bo was making $3m per year you would see a lot of Read plus 2nd round pick postings here.

I've never understood the love for JBo...obviously I'd take the advice of scouts and GM's long before I take my own but he's just never impressed me, or maybe it's that he's always been on a crappy team and doesn't shine like he would if he was in the playoffs.
