if kimmo does come back for another year, what do you think the cap hit would be? give or take

Honestly, I was hoping you would say that you are a leader. You are your own man (or woman).

Don't sell yourself short. You are a champion in many ways.

Follow the advice of a legendary investor - "Ignore the Crowd".

i was just being honest. maybe it's time 4 u to look in the mirror.

Why would anyone follow that Harvey Keitel wanna be? Not saying who or who does not, but personally I wouldn't bother.

Despite the hatred towards me, we can all agree that we are blessed to have Bill. For Flyers insight, I don't find the need to "follow" or listen to anyone else. But that is my opinion.

I do follow Dreger via Twitter but that was merely for the trade/FA season. Now I just enjoy Bill, as well as the blessing that is the HB's users posts.

Can't wait for the season. More fun to talk about actual hockey than which D-bag will pass the puck on the third pairing.

maybe it's this schtick itself that annoys people. i truly don't mean to just be antagonistic, i'm only saying. could've made those points (which i do agree with) without the self-pity

calm down sir
the only thing people "hate" is that for weeks on end, 95% of your posts consisted of Howard Eskin sarcasm, passive aggressive whining about the mods, or which nickname you were currently referring to yourself as.
that's all

- Crimsoninja

Thanks for keeping a running tab. If all goes well, we'll get down to 92% by weeks end.

agreed man. i guess you never know what will change, but who is even supposed to be available next summer as a replacement? enstrom would've been nice..... edler will resign

trying to convince kimmo to stick around for another year or two might be the best way to go

- FlyerMike18

Edler will be real interesting to watch
My feeling is he will eventually get resigned in Van
But with the overinflated salaries for D men he will want to get paid
Gillis has been able to keep the cap hits of all his defenseman so far under 5M
But with Edler he will have to go over that
And still he may get him resigned for what is perceived as a discount to the market

No question Meszaros injury, and (like it or not) Carle's departure have taken what was a pretty solid looking, if not spectacular defensive unit and made it less so. Unless a move is made, the 5/6 d-men are not going to be the same level of experienced NHL defensemen we have seen in that role for recent seasons. That's a little scary, but it might not be the end of the world.

Consider this. The Rangers have what many think are some of the best young defensemen in the league. Guys like Girardi, Staal, Del Zotto, and McDonagh. Three of those guys were first round picks. But Girardi was undrafted. Just like Manning and Gustafsson. MAB was a third round pick, so yes, we don't have any first rounders in the system that match the potential of Staal, Del Zotto, or McDonagh. But a big part of what allowed those young Ranger defensemen to reach their potential is that the Rangers played them in significant roles before most of the experts thought they were ready. A few years ago I remember pundits on TSN pointing out over and over again how inexperienced the Rangers' D corps was. How all those young guys were going to have to learn quick and play over their heads if the Rangers were to have any chance at the playoffs. A few years later, it sure looks like that strategy worked out pretty well for the Rags.

We now have the same opportunity for one or perhaps two of Bourdon, Manning, and Gustafsson to undergo a similar experience. Is it a lock that one of them will become the next Girardi? Certainly not. But it's at least possible, if we give these kids a chance for a full season, that we might have at least one quality NHL defensemen in that group. I think the smart play for the Flyers here is to give their young D-men the same chance those Rangers got. Let them play. Give them a chance to grow into the job.

I personally think at least one of them will surprise us, and become a solid NHL defenseman. And even if that doesn't happen, they can always do another Grossmann/Kubina type pickup near the deadline. But I think the last thing the Flyers should do now is deal away any of our picks or young forward depth in a panic move to bring in a "top pairing" guy. I also think it would be unwise to bring in a giant waste of cap space like JayBo, mostly because it greatly diminishes their ability to add to the team during the season if needed.

I say let the kids play. At least until the deadline.

Well...
It's a universal good feeling I have for all Flyers fans, regardless of their negativity or unlikely trade proposals or crazy ideas...
We all have the same ultimate goal of seeing the Cup go back to S Broad St

Personally, I remain optimistic, even with all the injuries.

Well said. No need to panic in August whatsoever.

It is never wise to make deals from a position of weakness. We will get tons of wins just from the play of G, the defense of Coots, and the goaltending of Bryz (it's true)

if not, i'd love to see the flyers take a run at him

i agree with you mostly, BB
but my concern is Bryz
we saw how his play improved last year when they tightened things up and brought in Kubina and Grossmann.
I feel he could be in for a rough one with such a spotty group of dmen starting the season.
i think a move gets made before opening night.

I have a creeping feeling we're in for another rocky campaign from Ilya. I hope I'm wrong.

I thought the general consensus was that the Flyers didn't really lose anything defensively in their own end. They may have even improved from last year. and what they lost was the ability to generate offense from the D.

Yup
Even when the rangers d were going through their growing pains they still had Hank to bail them out in the net

And I agree that what BB25 proposes is right path to take,
It's likely the Flyers will not be content to take a shot with the kids

Just hope they don't give up too much for whatever vet D they bring in
