Players rights are held by one team until they are at least 27 years of age or have been in the NHL for 7 years, regardless of how long they sign a contract for.

Take a guy like PK Subban. He can talk to other teams, but the Habs teams can simply match the offer and keep him. They don't have to sweeten the pot, and Subban is stuck there.

He can't go to the KHL without Montreal's permission if he's under contract, even if it's a one year deal. And if he goes a RFA, Montreal retains his rights until after he comes back.

how did eric lindros and other players force a trade?

The basketball in the Olympics will be more competitive than the NBA. The odds of a team other than the Lakers or Heat winning the Championship next year is virtually zero.

this lakers dream team kinda reminds me of the last time they did this a bit with an aging karl malone and gary payton, which failed

either way, i'd like to see Nash get a ring

By refusing to play, and sitting home while not getting a paycheck.

Lindros lost two years off his career by refusing to play for the team that held his rights.

Yeah, that was amusing seeing Malone and Payton trying to ride Kobe's coatalis and get a ring.

That guy in Chicago stopped a bunch of Hall of Famers from winning a ring. Malone, Stockton, Ewing, Barkley to name a few.

Yeah, and lost two full years of income to do so. Also, a guy like Lindros isn't an average NHLer.

How many teams will be interested in trading value for Jake Voracek if he sat out a full season? Hell Lindros sat out a year with a concussion and was still worth 3 NHL regulars in trade for his name value alone.

They have to give Durant and Westbrook some help. Not sure where they are going to get it. Harden disappeared in the Finals, and Ibaka and Perkins can't score.

so then in the NHL you get around that by not signing 20 year contracts if you want the flexibility stick to 1-2 year contracts
it's prefectly fine to leave a job after one year

Google might throw stock options and what not to keep me there but you use that in your negotiations with microsoft

You're not going to get a conky writing code in your cubicle either. Alliteration aside, these players likely want long term stability.

no but i could develop back problems or carpel tunnel

you give up flexibility for long term stability then, so don't complain about your salary being too low

No, Jordan Schultz was a relatively high draft pick that refused to sign for two years and became a free agent, in doing so, he opted for early UFA where his salary was set and delayed later UFA status, when he'd be due for a bigger payday

I agree, Harden killed thm in the Finals. I he has 2 good games, they win. Ibaka contributes ofensively but their strengh is their youth, athletesism and they play really good D. Its a grat match with Howard in the line up but I still like OKC. You cant stop Durant

Durant is fantastic. Love watching him play. Was rooting hard for them in the Finals. Unfortunately you can't beat Miami with only two guys scoring. They have a bright future there. Durant will win plenty.

If you signed a contract to work for Google, and then Google turned around and demanded 24% of your salary back, how happy would you be? Now, say you can't leave Google for another job in the industry, because you are under contract-and that contract is honored in other countries around the world, so you couldn't even jump to a job in India.

i wouldn't sign a contract with any company to make what i'm making right now but if i was making 10s of millions it's not a big issue since you're essentially set for life
