Tennis - 0.66 ppg career
Skinner - 0.73 ppg career

i agree it will be used as a comparison.

Ennis 23 yrs old (when season starts)
Skinner 20 yrs old...

it really really shouldn't be.

That's a lot of money for Skinner. I like him as a player and hope it works out for Carolina but I'd like to see him protect himself a lot better coming across the middle. Canes not afraid to throw some dough around this offseason.

So you are complaining about Garth providing you a forum to complain about him? Circle of Life.

Huh? Eklund provides the site genius. They are technically both to blame. Ek would fire him but we give him too many hits.

i agree. Ennis is a nice player but poll 30 NHL GMs and i'd be shocked if any take Ennis over Skinner.

Is Ennis worth 5.7 a year cap hit????? FUUUCCCKKKK NOOOOOOOO.

if this is what he wants trade his ass to the Ducks for Ryan NOW

- rustbelt82

thats exatly what im thinking ....... no way in hell Ennis is worth 5.7 million!

I still think if the sabres do make a move Ennis has to be involved ... i mean seriously it can not be that hard to make a deal with Ennis! They have to be procrastinating / putting off his deal for a reason!

Not that any of us know, but maybe the uncertainty of the next CBA this deal gets done. What if you can't go past 5 years, or there is not some grandfathered rule for current players and his entry level contract is extended instead of RFA.

Of course unlikely all that will happen, but I wonder if you see next years UFA/RFA's signing if they get word they may sign a deal with provisions that affect them directly.

Are you on drugs? One is doing that as a 20 year old, the other is two years older. That's a big difference at this stage of their careers, and Skinner still comes out WELL on top. IN terms of points, and most other things.

An arbitrator would laugh his agent out of the room if he tried to use that as a comparable.

- prock

i am looking at it from the agents point.. it would be his starting point.. is it HIGH yes very high. but it will be there starting point at a minimum.

I don't even know if the agent will have the balls to suggest it. Age is a pretty big factor in comparables.

Skinner is and always has been a blue chip prospect/player.
Ennis hasn't.

I'm not ripping Ennis, but I doubt anybody aside form Garth would even suggest they are close.

25% more NHL goals scored, 3 yrs younger.

Agent would get laughed out of the room (I would hope...)

you all say that he will get laughed out of the room... but does anyone actually know what goes on during the arbitrations?

I am sorry for looking at it from a different standpoint where someone is just trying to cash in... like they all are. i will forget it.

Skinner's going to get a whole lot better. Will Ennis?

Ennis is a good player but he's not of Skinner's quality now and certainly not in the future. No GM would trade Skinner for Ennis. They are not comparable.

At least you didn't mention Doan.

How did this guy get a blog on here? Is he paying a monthly rental fee for it or something?

I get what you’re trying to do, but keep in mind that these things are negotiations based on common sense. If you don’t reasonably think it’s a good comparison, GMs won’t buy it either. In the end, it’s what the market dictates. And I guarantee you, if Ennis’ agent walks in and says $6M, he’s going to get laughed at. If he took that to other GMs, he’d get laughed at again. 29 times. And that, in the end, is what matters. I doubt any GM gives up more than about $3.5 to $4M (on the high end), along with draft picks, and in the end, that’s really what will dictate his contract. If he feels he can make himself a better comparable to Skinner over the next few years, then he’s best off taking a short term contract, and renegotiating when he does. But I doubt that happens. He’s a closer comparison to Sam Gagner than he is to Skinner.

I think thats even too high .....2.5 million is my max. Ennis hasnt proven anything yet! Yes he had 1 65 point season BUT his numbers are inconsistent. You cant invest that much!

65 point season? The minors don't count.
