Exactly most fans and experts seem to agree its time to rebuild seems the flames organization is stuck in the mud.

For the millionth time, while I agree with those who say they need to rebuild, I can't name a single team that's blown it up when they weren't in the basement and/or losing massive amounts of money. (A good portion of these "rebuilds" haven't exactly been intentional either.) The Flames are mediocre at best but neither of these things are happening. It's stupid but it's the nature of the business.
What they're doing now appears to be - if you allow yourself a bit of cautious optimism - to slowly let the youth they have in while still trying to be semi-competitive. It's not the worst strategy, because most of their top prospects are still years away (and there's still not a whole lot there). You could argue the solution to this is to draft higher, but as I've said, it's not realistic to expect them to do that on purpose right now.
I'm not one who drinks the Feaster Kool-Aid - Jankowski, Wideman and Hudler could all easily backfire on him and he deserves criticism if they do - but I also keep in mind that it's not as simple a picture as him alone deciding whether to "rebuild" or not. |
